My friend and I want to stay at a hotel in Chicago for the weekend in a couple months. Thing is we have no idea what the laws are for booking a hotel. Can anyone help me out and outline the rules and restrictions for reserving a hotel room? This would be much appreciated.

It depends on how nice of a hotel you want but most require you be 18 and some require that someone 21 years of age is present. If you could find some bum on the street with an ID to get the room for you though then your in like flint that way as well.

Unless you're staying at the Drake in Chicago, you can get rooms fine enough. I've done it, so it shouldn't be a problem.

May I pry as to who the friend is?

About 15 minutes after posting I called one of my friends who said he'd be more than willing to go to Chicago and get a room for me with his mom's credit card. What a pal.

If you go through priceline, travelocity, or hotels.com you can reserve it with your credit card and not even have to talk to anyone.
