That thing is huge. Notice how much taller it is than the other four buildings in the pic, all of which are the tallest buildings standing right now. Its funny, up until I was about 9 or 10, the Sears Tower in Chicago was still the tallest building the world. Now it's being blown away by all these booming Asian super-economies who are racing to build taller and taller shit. I wish the US would take some initiative and join this race. I love skyscrapers. -Ugly Bastard [ March 31, 2005, 03:21 PM: Message edited by: Ugly Bastard ] |

Check out www.skyscrapercity.com you would probably like it. But for one thing Dubai doesn't need to build up, it's in the middle of a dessert, and doesn't really have a huge amount of people there yet, just a shitload of investment.

Beebs is entirely right. I think it once used to be an issue of national pride (which explains why asian countries are now doing it) but I think cities still have some growing out to do before they need to grow up.
I'll probably laugh about this later in life but... there has to be a point where the city is so congested that even major building head out to the subburbs, just like the subburbanites did. Actually we see the trend right now, I know people who work in large office buildings in burbs, and it seems like there are more and more of them. Basically I'm saying that until we run out of land, it will probably be more economical to build out than up. |

And even with all of the cool building, I find it hard to believe that many people are going to want to make the trip with shit like this constantly going on.
