Give them a complex
Over the years I've watched my friends struggle in the dating game. What most of them fail to realize is that they're approaching it wrong way: showering the object of your desire with praise and affection is counter productive and sends the wrong message – it tells them they're good enough already, that you're happy with them just the way they are. Even if you are somewhat satisfied remember that there is always room for improvement. If you want to take your relationship to the next level then give your partner a complex; insecurity is an incredible motivator. It's a technique used by self help books everywhere: first you convince a person they have a problem and then you help them fix it. Brilliant! All I'm suggesting is doing the same thing in a relationship. There's no need to go for the homerun right away – be subtle. When your girl (or boy) is getting dressed ask them what they've been eating lately. It's innocent enough to give you some wiggle room, yet correlates enough with weight to make them uneasy. The trick is to know what your partner is lacking and what you can say to help them work towards bettering it. They will appreciate you manipulating them – openness and honesty is overrated and leads to confrontation. Why argue over something and risk having to "talk about it" when you can slowly make them feel inadequate? The best part about all of this is after enough conditioning you won't even have to say anything anymore; they will naturally continue the self improvement on their own. Once you've planted the seed of inferiority in them you only need to water it every so often before it blossoms into a beautiful flower of self loathing. You might think this is terrible advice because it's "playing games" with someone you care about. You'd be half right. It is playing games, but you're fooling yourself if you think relationships are anything other than that. Both people involved in a relationship want something from the other person, otherwise they would be alone. It's a power struggle, give and take, compromise, but why compromise when you don't have to? As long as you undermine and manipulate them they'll be too distracted with themselves to worry about what they don't like about you. Other people should have your self interest in mind as much as you. Remember that to thy own self be true. The end justifies the means, and the end is a finished product that makes you happy. |
