In order, I watched season one of The Wire, seasons one and two of Breaking Bad and Season one of Spartacus.

The Wire was great for all the reasons mentioned before. Great development of every character. I look forward to getting the rest of the seasons.

Breaking Bad was awesome. Thoroughly enjoyable show. Love the duality of Walt and I continually get pissed at Jesse.

Spartacus was fucking great. Lots of violence and naked chicks.

Season 2 of Spartacus is a little weird because it's a prequel, but fucking delivers. My only beef with it is that's only like 6 episodes.

Creeping around as I please nonchalantly like any other Supreme Emperor might.

Does anybody watch Community? It started after I left the states and I just started watching it, I'm halfway through Season 2, and it's one of the funniest, smartest shows I've ever seen on television.

The way they tie their shows into movie cliches and TV tropes is brilliant. They're all hilarious, but the paintball episode was brilliant.

After i'm finished with this I'm going to start Parks and Recreation.

I'm confused. I just watched episode 3 and it wasn't that good. Did we watch different episodes?

I watch Community weekly and love it. The characters are fantastic in their diversity and each have their little uniqueness that makes them absolutely hilarious.

Agree fully on the paintball episodes. Some episodes are a little too far out there imo. Not sure if you've seen it yet, but there is a claymation episode around Christmas of one season that I hated.

Actually just started watching that today and stopped because I didn't want to deal with a bullshit claymation episode.

Is season 2 just finishing up back home then?

Exactly all this. I see what they were going for with that episode, but it was too outside of their working formula. It is funny that they reference that episode in other ones though. The tent city/conspiracy theory episode is pretty good too, but paintball reigns supreme IMO.

UB:

Because the Wire changed my life your cred for recommending TV and film skyrocketed. And so I purchased the first season of Mad Men. I watched 2 episodes and was very unimpressed. It's kind of neat that the show is set in the time and place that it is, but it's not in the same league as The Wire. Probably nothing is.

How many episodes of Mad Men do I need to watch before making up my opinion? If somebody were to ask this question to me about The Wire, I would have responded with the entire first season.

The basis of our governments being the opinion of the people, the very first object should be to keep that right; and were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers, or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter. But I should mean that every man should receive those papers and be capable of reading them.

I was pretty into Mad Men right away so it's possible you just won't really like it (though I would expect you to like it more than basically anyone else on Nubblies). It's certainly not as good as The Wire. Maybe give Mad Men another 2-4 episodes and if you're not totally in love with following Don Draper's path as a 1960s advertising executive in NYC, I'd say you could just throw in the towel.

Have you ever watched a show that's so wonderful you wonder how your life ever felt complete without it? That's how I feel about Community. God bless you for the recommendation, Blonde and others.

I agree with y'all about the paintball episode awesomeness and the claymation episode gayness. I'd like to add that the Dungeons and Dragons episode was epic as well. Also, the final episode of this season (airs 5/5) is called "A Fist Full of Paintballs". I wonder if it will be similar in greatness to the first paintball one.

Blonde - You can just skip the claymation episode, it's not important. I skipped it until I finished the season, then went back and watched it. You aren't going to miss anything important as long as you realize that Abed is seeing everything in still-motion animation.

I love Mad Men, I'm honestly surprised it hasn't gotten as much attention as The Wire on here. As each season progresses so does the intensity of that show. Watch it.

I've been watching Bored to Death lately. It's a sort of an edgier comedy starring Jason Schwartzman, Ted Danson, and Zack Galifinakis (and he's hilarious, imo). Ted Danson is a standout, and keeps the show watchable during parts that I'm sure some of you may not find entertaining. There have also been some decent cameos that are funny.

Got caught up to the Lavaar Burton show today. The claymation episode wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, especially if you keep in mind how hilarious it is that they're in the study room the whole time.

The Dungeons and Dragons episode, while having some hilarious parts, legitimately made me hate Pierce Hawthorne.

I did not, I thank you.

Probably everyone knows to watch "Arrested Developement." At risk of raising the ire of Seinfield loyalists, I think AD is the funniest network sitcom ever. If you haven't watched it, for the love of god, go go go.

It sucks that it got cancelled, but the truth is, when it was on, nobody watched it. It's very strange. My opinion is that it was just promoted terribly. I actually remember seeing a commercial for it, and it looked like just another Fox sitcom about a goofy family. Remember that Family Guy where Stewie lists every Fox show that had been greenlit then cancelled in a two-year span? How Fox ended up with Arrested Development is beyond me.

Another show completely ruined by its station: Firefly. I would rather have a new season of firefly than any other show. Firefly was a science fiction show, it almost felt more like a western-style than sci-fi. No aliens, for one thing. It was created by Joss Whedon (of Buffy the Vampire Slayer fame [also responsible for "Astonishing X-Men" comics which are fantastic]), very clever dialogue, and I can't think of a show with a better cast. Nathan Fillion is always good (all the way back to two guys, a girl, and a pizza place. Anyone remember that show? Remember when Sharon dated Nomar? Remember Nomar? Remembering this show gives me the opinion that Ryan Reynolds is actually okay, despite seeming a little like a dousche). The red-head guy is pretty funny (he's genius in the original "Death at a Funeral"). Summer Glau might be the most beautiful woman alive. I submit that for your approval. Adam Baldwin is hilarious, never seen him in anything else but this makes me want to. Also because he's a Baldwin. Anyway, one thing this show has, and I credit Whedon because everything he does has this, really really good lines. Just some solid jokes.

Oh what I was going to say, the reason this show got cancelled is very bizarre. Another one fucked up by Fox. They basically showed the episodes in the wrong order. No shit. So people are watching the show, and an event is alluded to, and the viewer has no clue. Fox just totally fucked up. So people got confused, the show did poorly, got cut.

Fortunately there is a movie, called Serenity. It's also awesome.

Sorry for all the parentheses recently. I've been reading David Foster Wallace.
