Kosher salt

Was using some salt the other day and it said it was "kosher for passover" and it had that 6 pointed star on it. What does this mean? Salt is fucking salt. I mean there's the lab created NaCl and then there's the expensive natural stuff that is NaCl with other minerally shit in the mix as well. So what the fuck is kosher salt and how is it different in that it is suitable for passover? AP has always used it because it has a courser grain and figured it was kosher in name only and didn't really have any jew connection --like kosher pickles have garlic added.

Seems like it's a misnomer, and should be "Koshering Salt" instead.

It's really not. It's a courser granulation. Run it through a finer grinder and you'd get pickling salt. I like it over the plain ass cylinder carton with the umbrella carrying whore on it. Mainly because of it's course, yet not too course, texture. If I need to dump some NaCl into boiling water for pasta, I go pickling salt. It dissolves way quicker.

Kosher salt has its place in cooking, usually added at the end. But for baking, brining, boiling, or anything that needs to go through fine mesh, pickling salt is the bomb. Fleur de Sel and other sea salts are way overrated. Not much bang for their buck.

Funny is that if you want to make a nice Kosher corned beef, pickling salt is used.
