So this is a thread to share things you've created with your own sweat, blood, and tears. I recently decided it would be cool to have shelves shaped like Tetris blocks. You could arrange them however you liked to fill any space you desired.

After not searching the internet at all, I determined they did not exist so I created them. I made one block of each possible configuration (7 in total) and stained them a variety of shades to provide contrast.

Then I stacked them up in a configuration that would fit the very small space I had designed them for and simply secured them into a single unit with a nail gun. Here's how they look filled with random shit.

I like this thread. Tempest, my old roommate made a shelving unit similar to yours, but he put it in a "square depression" about a foot deep in his wall that he wasn't sure what to do with. I think "normal" people put flowers in there or something. I suppose I didn't need to write that last sentence.

Tempest, I can't really tell from the photos, are those stackable? That adds a whole new level of cool if they are.

My buddy just basically glued everything in one solid piece, I tracked down the imgur album: Photo Album - Imgur

and yes that is my Pulp Fiction kangaroo caddy that was the centerpiece at the time.

Yeah they were stackable, but the obvious downside to that is that if you place the weight wrong and they all fall over or something. What I ended up doing was mounting the bottom piece to the wall and then stacking everything else on top of it and just tacking it together with a small nail to hold the pieces in place securely, then secured the top piece to the wall as well. If I want to I can still easily take them apart and restack them.

If they were going to be free standing and stackable, I probably would have designed them a little bit differently to be sure they wouldn't just fall over, but it's definitely workable.

The object you're referring to in Tempest's photo I believe is a box containing baoding balls.
