*please point out the thread my rant lies in, if one exists already. i'm too lazy to look.*

alright, i turned eighteen on the 21st of february. woop de doo, right?

well let's see... i can vote now. i can buy cigarettes and tobacco related shit. i can look at or buy pornography. i no longer have to have a work permit. i can work as many hours in the day as i damn well please. if i choose to support myself, i can move out of my mom's house and live on my own. i can get married without parental consent. i can be arrested, because i'm a legal adult i guess. i can join the army or something and fucking DIE for america if i felt the need to.

so i can do all of this shit... that's great and all, but why the hell do i have to wait three more years until i can legally drink? it makes no fucking sense to me.

another thing that REALLY gets me, because i've known my entire life about the obnoxious legal drinking age, is the fact that i can't rent a fucking hotel room. what is this shit??? what if i was married, and for some reason my husband and i (both of us under 21) had to rent a hotel room while we were moving into our new house or something? we would be shit out of luck i guess, because the bitch at the front counter would tell us that we can't do it because we aren't 21.

or forget the whole married thing.. what if my friends and i were taking a road trip to florida or something? are we supposed to sleep in the car, because apparently we aren't old enough to get a couple rooms. sure, we've got the credit card to pay you with and we're legal adults... but it looks like we're still too young to have a place to stay away from home. what a bunch of fucking bullshit...

/rant.

We can dance if we want to, we can leave your friends behind, because your friends don't dance and if they don't dance then they're no friends of mine.

...you are still too young to rent a car as well.

Well I am nearly 20, so things are starting to look up.

i've gotten numerous hotel rooms, the policy really depends on what hotel you go to. i know the super eight on university drive here in mishawaka will rent one to you.

the cheaper and sleazier the motel, the more likely they are to give you a room even if you are under 21.

And so true. You shouldnt have a problem finding something cheap and sleazy, underwater. I mean, you're going out with fruit for gods sake.

Just kidding.

Psychedelics are illegal not because a loving government is concerned that you may jump out of a third story window. Psychedelics are illegal because they dissolve opinion structures and culturally laid down models of behavior and information processing.

You mean Fruit shouldn't have any problem finding anything cheap and sleazy, he found underwater.

very funny, blonde boy.

i searched for two nights in a row a few days ago to find a hotel room... we were trying to find the cheapest ones, and never went into the ones we thought were too high-priced. finally we find this horrible, shitty place that was really cheap. i walk in to get it, he asks for my ID. i thought nothing of it because i figured he was looking to see if i was eighteen. the bastard fucking tells me that i have to be twenty one! we had searched MANY MANY hours for a hotel room, and when we FINALLY find one, it turns out that i'm not even old enough to rent one. you can imagine how pissed i was. i guess we'll just have to go into every single one next time, hoping for someone who won't check. grr.

oh and niger. i'm not the cheap and sleezy one.

There is no law that says you can't rent a car or have a hotel room at 18. It's the owners discression.

And having the alcohol age at 21 is for the safety of society. In most places where the drinking age was lowered to 18, teen drinking and driving deaths skyrocketed. Yes, perhaps it's right in theory and in all goodness, but in reality legal drinking at 18, in America, doesn't work; and it probobly never will.

i see your point... but if it's such a problem then why not make it illegal? i'm sure if the drinking age was stretched to maybe 25, then, WOW, the numbers of drinking and driving cases of people ages 21-24 would LOWER. that's not a very hard concept. however, it just seems very stupid to me that you can gain a lot of rights when you turn eighteen, but you can't drink.

Well, once you're 18 you can at least buy marijuana pipes. That's good enough for me.
