I figured out last year that Christmas is most definitely not my favorite holiday.
Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, for reasons which I will reveal. Thanksgiving is smack dab in between two damn fine holiday seasons. You got Halloween before, which fucking rocks (if you celebrate it right) and then you got the Christmas season right after. Christmas Day itself...well, it just sucks. Traveling, and having to put up with a million cousins....sure, getting gifts is great, but that's around only 2 hours out of a rather hellish and really annoying day. Then, you have nothing to look forward to afterwards. I saw a quote on an insurance sign the other day that rang true to me. "After Christmas, every kid thinks of their birthday". Besides New Year's, post-holiday season just promises bleak and dreary days of overcast-ness and slush. Fuck that. And the holiday cheer is gone. The decorations are gone. Shit, everything is gone. Feels like the world dies on Christmas, and is reborn around Easter, but inbetween, you get to have Lincoln's birthday and Martin Luther King Jr. Day, oh, and lest I forget, our favorite...Valentine's Day! Fuck that. Christmas might bring joy, but it also heralds misery. That's why Thanksgiving is the shit. Oh, and the eating is nice too. |

I just can never get into the Christmas spirit. It's about an hour away from the day, and i'm still not in it, it's even snowing and my mum's baking and playing the music...
I do love Christmas though. I think we just need more snow. I do like snow. Granted, i hate driving in it and all that jazz, but it really is a neat phenomenon... The best holiday of all though, is, of course, Festivus. |
