Linkin Park - Meteora

Pre-script: I’ll make this particular review short, because there’s no need for me to go into detail right now. I figured I’d go ahead and download these moathers, and some of them turned out alright. Much better than the first single appeared to be (not a fan of that). If you’re thinking that this album is going to sound a lot like “Hybrid Theory” you’re not too far off, but you are a little.
01-Foreword (Intro) :13 Okay, 13 seconds of some object being smashed in the rain... don’t know what that’s all about... that’s kind of a stupid way to start an album, just kidding, not.
02-Don’t Stay 3:07 Some of Chester’s screaming in this song is alright, but he gets kind of monotone in the singing... but the choruses on this album seem to be fairly mediochre... I’m sure they’ll grow on me a little more like “Somewhere I Belong” did... but I still don’t think they’re that great. Good guitar on the bridge though.
03-Somewhere I Belong 3:33 Yeah... I fucking hated this song when I first heard it... I could tell the rapping on the verses was good, but seriously, the chorus “I wanna heal, I wanna feel, what I thought was never real...” and yadda yadda... I’m not a big fan. It’s bearable, but the rapping is definitely the highlight. The singing on the bridge is much better. As are the guitars.
04-Lying From You 2:55 This is one of my favourites so far, starts off with a really fucking cool melody and beat and then goes into some unfollowable guitar crunging. Some of Chester’s singing starts to sound like he’s trying to scream his way through 80’s melodies or something. The effects and melodies are great on this song though. An interesting bridge with crazy guitars going all over the place (this seems to be a trend today, take TRUST Company for example).
05-Hit the Floor 2:44 Great effects starting off this song as well. Pretty cool rhythms coming out of the guitar riffs. This is one of the few choruses I’m a fan of, though there isn’t actually any singing involved, the rhythms that Chester... screams... are pretty cool. Great lyrics on this one too, especially from Mike Shinoda (he rules, if LP every breaks up I want Mike and the DJ to make a rap band, they would kick ass).
06-Easier to Run 3:24 Hmmm... kind of a slow hard(ish) rock ballad. Sweet bass lines are evident on this track. Chester actually does some good singing on this one. While we’re on the subject, has anyone heard “December”? It was on “Re:Animation”, it is a damn good song. Anyway, I recommend this one “Easier to Run” for those who are into the lighter rockish stuff.
07-Faint 2:42 Definitely one of my favourites. The melody/effect on the verses, as well as the rapping fucking ass. Not too mention the beats, and the choruses are fairly withstandable. Seriously, it’s a beaut, this song rules, nnnnnGETIT.
08-Figure.09 3:17 The guitars seem to generally rock out on this song. They kick the shit of rhythmicism during the verses. Yeah... not a huge fan of Chester’s singing on the choruses once again... scream scream scream on the bridge! But whatever, I doubt I could do better myself.
09-Breaking the Habit 3:16 I heard clips of this song earlier... and... well it didn’t end up like I thought it would... it’s kind of just a speedy little diddy, it’s not bad, much more oriented for the non-hard rockers. The melodies get pretty cool, yeah, definitely a lot more melodic than a lot of the other stuff. It’s a good one, and I think this’ll be a favourite after a while. Seems pretty damn short (like all the songs)
10-From the Inside 2:55 The keyboards that are overlayed on top of the monstrous amounts of distorted guitar on the choruses add a lot to this song. Good singing by Chester on the choruses on this one. Yeah... kind of sounding a lot like the other ones though... has one of the best choruses yet though.
11-Nobody’s Listening 2:58 This is my favourite song off of the album. There is this bitching oriental sounding effect/melody, and the rhyming fucking kicks major ass along with the beat, again. So that is why this is up there on my favourites list. Yeah, Mike Shinoda kixxass.
12-Session 2:24 This is just a cool instrumental track, but it’s a really good one, which is why I gave it a good ranking (for being simple).
13-Numb 3:07 On the choruses, when he says “I’ve become so numb” I think the next thing he’s going to say is “That I can’t feel my thumb”. Maybe that’s just me. Mike Shinoda just whispers some stuff and it sounds cool. But in all seriousness... this one has a touch better melodies than some of the other ones... it reminds me a lot of stuff off of “Hybrid Theory” though.
Titan’s Ranking: 1. Nobody’s Listening 2. Faint 3. Lying From You 4. From the Inside 5. Session 6. Easier to Run 7. Hit the Floor 8. Breaking the Habit 9. Figure.09 10. Somewhere I Belong 11. Numb 12. Don’t Stay 13. Foreword
Post-script / Titan’s Rating: 79% This album ends up sounding like a hybrid of “Hybrid Theory” and their remix album of “Hybrid Theory”, “Re:Animation”. It’s got it’s good points. Once again the listener will find solace not in Chester’s screaming vocals, but by the wonderfully tempered hip-hop beats, and rhyming by Mike Shinoda (he’s a rhyme master, and his lyrics are great). One thing that’s sad is that there is no song over 3 and a half minutes long... now if that doesn’t scream “I’ve been poppyized!” I don’t know what does. Not that I know that’s the case. Overall there are too many cool spurts of stuff and not enough solid great songs for me. Still, overall a good listen, like I said, it’s got it’s peaks. I don’t know what the fuck kind of title “Meteora” is though. Linkin Park - Meteora [This message has been edited by Titan (edited April 17, 2003).] |

Yeah, I have to say, Somewhere I Belong wasn't really what I wanted from Linkin Park, but the intro to Faint kicked ass. Then I heard the whole song....meh.
I'm going to check out some of the good uns, and come back and comment. I'm seriously lovin the review stuff though dude. Keep it coming. |

Seriously goatfucker, go get yourself some fucking friends, or a fucking life, or just a good fucking.
Chuck - Get "From the Inside" and "Easier to Run", I think you'd appreciate the more melodic aspects of these two, I have been lately. But get "Nobody's Listening" first, it fucking kixxass. |

Titan, let's not encourage goatie here to pursue anything that involves procreation....or thinking about procreation. It just hurts us all.
I got "Nobody's Listening" last night, and boy are you all right in saying that this song kicks plenty of that little thing that I like to have shook in my face. Or big thing. Depends on your tastes. I am now in the process of dl-ing the other recommendations. And looking forward to hearing them. |

Don't get your hopes up too much though, "Nobody's Listening" is really the only hip-hop track... though "Session" is different because it's an instrumental. "Easier to Run" is one of my favourites right now. But most are more of the typical hard linkin park that has to kind of grow on you. Speaking of which, it's been growing on me whilst I've been listening to it on my road trips this weekend. I like it. It's obviously not a complete departure from "Hybrid Theory" by any means, but it's good, and if you're a fan of "Hybrid Theory" at all, you'll like this one more. If you hated "Hybrid Theory"... you'll probably still hate this one. |
