I didn't make the connection until watching season 5 for the second time and they said "Cheese, you mean Cheese Wagstaff?" and then proceeded to say "Cheese Wagstaff" 17 more times during that scene.

I tend to understand FC's point. Saying that Omar is your favorite character off The Wire is sort of like saying that Jeremy Lin is your favorite NBA player. It's not that they're not both awesome, there are just more sophisticated choices out there.

Fuck that. There is no other character that brought pure unadulterated joy to me in every single scene they appeared. Runners up are Stringer Bell and Marlow Stanfield ... but Omar was far and away the greatest.

Disagree about Marlo being up there but Stringer for sure. Was just thinking today that the scene where he gets got by Omar and Brother Mouzone at the end of season three might have been the pinnacle scene of the show.

Excellent analogy. I'm now equally tired of hearing about Lin as I am The Wire. If someone makes a thread titled, "Another Jereme Lin Thread," I'm going to punch one of you. I get where you are coming from, well-rounded characters with good development etc etc ... I'm going on the pure glee i experience every time these characters are on screen, which is something that is not duplicated (for me) across TV.

These characters are truly larger than life and control the screen whenever they appear. Other examples: Tyrion Lannister from game of thrones & Gus from Breaking Bad, they are a HUGE catalyst every second they are on screen, and that quality is hard to find in a character.

The Wire wasn't meant to have larger-than-life characters. If you think Omar is larger than life, it's a big time flaw.
