The result and the intent are not mutually exclusive ... he was programmed to be curious, they gave him "lessons" to explore, those "lessons" happened to be useful. Think of him more along the lines of Data on Star Trek.

Of course the rival clan/sect/tribe/whatever was not pleased with the assortment of spawned civilizations throughout the galaxy so they started a campaign to end them ... the installations on the discovered planet were probably as far as they got before their campaign petered out, essentially making it to the "Prometheus Clan's" home planet ... the one that the "Prometheans" invited us to visit once our species reached the pinnacle of evolution. Bottom line: Prometheus did a fantastic job of capturing the essence of the original Alien movie. It showed the shit hitting the fan in terrifying ways in what was otherwise a ho-hum work outing. Of course we are so desensitized today that the shit we saw in Alien would not freak us out like it did back then, so he had to go for some pure disgust driven freakouts ... like crab walking techno vikings, rapid alien fetus gestation, and undying octopus tentacle monsters.

I see we're just abandoning spoiler tags then. Alright.
I get what you're saying; RE: keeping up with the Joneses in the modern "Saw" era, but I still thought the crabwalking part was just dumb. I also went to the bathroom during the part where David was talking to Weyland, so I missed that whole part about the "secret mission" entirely. My bad. So why would the "Prometheus" Engineer who helped spawn mankind lead us to a planet where they wanted to kill us? I'm not quite sure I follow that. Are you getting this from somewhere online or is it your interpretation? You posit that there were two factions, one that wanted to create mankind, and one that didn't? What was the purpose of creating (seemingly inferior) mankind elsewhere, and taking hundreds of millions (or billions, not sure what stage they show up on planet earth) of years to do it? And does my surrogate/cattle theory carry any weight in your opinion? |

Faction B didn't like that shit. Their genetic makeup should not be dilluted or used for other whatever blah blah blah Prometheus stealing power from the gods metaphor ... so they go to Faction A's home base planet and say "what the fuck are you guys doing? Oh I see where you guys have been performing your little experiments. We're going to kill you then kill them! Ooops I spilled some of this shit! Oh fuck we're all dead!"

Why when they woke up that dude did he turn immediately violent? He's basically human, right? I mean he is as smart or smarter than us? So why did he get physical so quickly? Kinda dumb move and didn't work his way.

Imagine you were awoken by a bunch of midget aliens? How are you going to respond?

And I'd been asleep for 2000 years and one of them speaks to me in English? Yeah I'd probably try to kill them immediately before having a word. Then I'd calmly fly my spaceship away. Perfectly normal reaction.

Back when we were roommates I tried to wake you up and you threw a shoe at me. You'd only been sleeping 8 hours. (Throwing shoe)*[(2000 years)/(8 hours)]> killing an entire race.

Psychedelics are illegal not because a loving government is concerned that you may jump out of a third story window. Psychedelics are illegal because they dissolve opinion structures and culturally laid down models of behavior and information processing.
