This weekend, Pliedes and myself traveled a good 4 1/2 hours away, from Bloomington IN to Nashville TN in order to attend a Perfect Circle show. This is the story:
Saturday 11.15.03 3:00 a.m. - Titan and Pliedes go to bed after a healthy run through the Earth Temple in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. 7:15 a.m. - Titan and Pliedes wake up in typical god-like fashion. And by god-like fashion we mean Titan disregards pants, shirts, or the shower and immediately gravitates towards his iMac while Pliedes lays in bed singing off-key songs about touching elves. 8:05 a.m. - They leave with no food in their stomachs since all campus dineries are closed. 8:30 a.m. - One of Titan's many weird "I can predict the next song" occurances occurs. Titan's 10 disc CD-changer is randomizing while Pliedes mentions something about being under an umbrella. Titan says "Under my umbrella?" and then laughs and states "Watch, Under My Umbrella will play next". "Under My Umbrella" plays next, a mere 5 seconds later. Pliedes: "Is this...", Titan: "Yeah...". Both proceed to be generously freaked out by this and give even more credit to Titan's connection with predicting songs. 9:57 a.m. - Titan and Pliedes stop and eat a healthy and cheap breakfast at Taco Bell. 10:45 a.m. - Titan and Pliedes experience a 12-lane wide road. The insanity. 10:47 a.m. - Titan attempts to hit Pliedes... Titan fails miserably in a spectacular display of slow-motion inaccuracy. 11:03 a.m. - A hot girl in a silver Grand Prix is spotted. The conclusion is that she may be going to the Perfect Circle show as well. But probably not by herself... so she is probably picking up her other hot friend who both like to have sex with skinny bearded guitarists. 11:08 a.m. - A police officer who just pulled someone over is spotted. Pliedes decides to honk loudly and annoyingly at him... and then proceeds to drive like fuck. 1:00 p.m. - After a pleasantly boring 5 hour road trip, the gods arrive at the Municipal Auditorium for another pleasantly boring 5 1/2 hours of waiting outside the entrance. 2:00 p.m. - While Pliedes is on the top of a trash can to look into the windows at the back of the arena to see APC soundcheck, Titan holds their spot in line while listening to "Hill-Jack Girl A" talk about how she peed on her friend in the parking garage. 5:30 p.m. - The cavalry of people waiting in line started to get restless as some people tried to skip to the front with friends. Pliedes and Titan were 18 and 19 in line. Security tells people that the other doors will be opened to and the people who had been there since 4 a.m. go insane as half of the crowd gravitates to the other doors, occupying the same position as them. 6:30 p.m. - The doors open and luckily they open our doors first, rightfully so. People rush in and the guards immediately start yelling at people to slow down. Titan and Pliedes run like fuck-twats towards the arena entrance and the front of the floor at the gate while all the other pussies nervously speed-walk aimlessly around. 8:00 p.m. - After the fuckload of waiting (and numerous dead baby jokes with the security guards) the show finally starts. Pliedes and Titan have the frontal-most standing positions. The Icarus Line opens and is the best opening act Titan and Pliedes have ever seen. They play real rock'n'roll and are a cross between Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin, but aren't old. They play new songs from an upcoming album, "White Devil" being Pliedes fav, and "Hit It and Quit It" being Titan's. Hopefully their album comes out soon. 9:00ish p.m. - APC strolls out and proceeds to rock the proverbial mother-fucking house. They play these songs (which Titan and Pliedes predicted with near perfect accuracy): -Vanishing -Pet -The Hollow -Magdelena -Weak & Powerless -Orestes -Blue -Thinking of You -The Package -3 Libras -The Nurse Who Loved Me -Gravity -The Noose -The Outsider -Judith Highlights: Going into "Pet" from "Vanishing", a changed and beautiful first verse of "Orestes", Maynard wiping his hands clean after his typical masturbation kick during "Thinking of You", "The Package", Titan's glasses getting bent all to hell when Billy through his slide into the crowd, Maynard telling a girl to tell the guy in the Tool shirt next to her that it was a Perfect Circle show, not a Tool show, Titan catching a water bottle thrown my Howerdel, "The Outsider", watching "Super Jackass A" get himself out of the pit after complaining endlessly about the dumbasses who kept pushing at the back, the fact that members of The Icarus Line and APC both came out at the end and performed renditions of random songs, including Metallica's "Master of Puppets". Sunday 11.16.03 12:19 a.m. - Post-show, Titan and Pliedes get in the car and drive to a nearby McDonald's so that they can rest and drink the equivalent of 6 waters and eat 4 apple pies. They hadn't had food or drink since Taco Bell at 10:00 in the morning. Titan tries to controll his want to kill as he over hears a hill-jack who says, "I would have thought they'd be playing with Tool, I was disappointed". GOD. 3:47 a.m. - SOME CONSTRUCTION MOTHERFUCKERS DECIDE TO BLOCK A 20 MILE SECTION OF INTERSTATE 65. THANKS FOR THAT. DETOURS ARE GREAT. 4:38 a.m. - Titan and Pliedes attempt to play the word association game and Titan accidently comes up with the word "thrink" and, being past 4 in the morning, has to stop on the side of the road from laughter so as he will not kill the both of them. 5:13 a.m. - Home sweet home. Titan and Pliedes' B.O. and clinging weed smoke make them smell pretty bad. They hit the sacks like two tons of bricks and sleep pleasantly until the afternoon. Soreness ensues upon awakening, but it was well worth it. [ November 16, 2003, 10:10 PM: Message edited by: Titan ] |

I must again emphasize how amazing this show really was. I don't care if you aren't a fan of APC at all, it was amazing.
And if you don't know, James Iha, the guitarist for the Smashing Pumpkins, now plays with A Perfect Circle. At the end of the show, a few of the members of APC and the Icarus Line proceeded to jack around and play the Pumpkin's "Zero" and Metallica's "Master of Puppets". You don't get to see collaberations and covers like very often. |

Wow, that sounds like an great show. That setlist definitely rocks. I will be attending an APC show in December with a good friend of mine, and if the show is anything like the description above, it will definitely be a great night.

I were the two hands that typed it, and the left and right parts of the brain that created 75% of it. And Jack's unapparent shame.
