If any of you have yet to see this work of cinematic mastery, you are truly missing out. Clerks, Kevin Smith's (Jay and Silent Bob, Dogma, Chasing Amy, Mallrats) first movie is far and away the best of the 'jersey series'. this was originally an independent film with next to no financial backing.

the plot follows Dante, a sales clerk at a local convenience store, on a somewhat normal day. throughout the film we are introduced to characters who reoccur throughout the rest of Kevin's movies including our first introduction to Jay and Silent Bob (Kevin Smith himself).

one high point of the movie is probably when an older gentleman comes into the store to use the bathroom... after quibbling over the quality of the toilet paper and the lack of pornographic reading material, he retires to bend a bisquit... later, once you've almost forgotten about him, the main character's ex unknowingly fucks the guy in the bathroom who aparently died from a heart attack while jerking off.

it's not all fart jokes and comic book references either, this movie contains some of the most intelligently written dialogue I have ever heard.

bonus points if you can find the original version where randal and dante are shot at the end proving that life, in fact, is a series of down endings.

I have recently seen Clerks for the first time, and found it humorous. It wasn't as funny as everyone was telling me it would be. I did, however, have very high expectations for it. I will see it again to see if it's better the second time. Maybe it gets better with the amount of times you see it, like Office Space (see review of Office Space).
