As some of you, and I hope all of you may have seen, the trailer for Watchmen nationally aired during the Dark Knight release.

For those of you who don't know, Watchmen is a series of Comic books created by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons in 1987 that has since turned into a graphic novel, and hailed as one of the greatest graphic novels of all time. If you haven't seen the trailer, here it is:

I don't care what anyone says, Smashing Pumpkins' "The Beginning is the End is the Beginning" makes that fucking trailer. Too bad it was wasted on being created for one of the shitty Batman movies in the 90s.

Anyways, I won't go into the details of the plotline, as you should really read it for yourself or at the very least the wiki synopsis, but the plot of it is about various "super heroes" over a timeline of about 50 years or so. Plot starts out with the majority of these heroes in retirement, until one of their own is murdered, and the events that follow. Thing about it is, all of them (besides one) have absolutely no powers whatsoever. The piece depicts them all as humans fighting for justice in a world where nobody wants them, and goes to pains to point out their flaws and weaknesses, just like any other human.

Anyways, the movie is slated for release early next year, but it's going to be fucking sick I think. Below I am gonna post some pictures of the characters, as well as some scenes that are so much like the comic its ridiculous, and these are just from the trailer.

This is one of those movies, where I might actually go out and read what its based on before seeing the film.

I've only read great things from reviews of the GN and think that its a pretty interesting concept.

I agree about the Pumpkins song and the trailer. I hadn't heard anyone say anything positive about it being in the trailer, and I was always like "WTF, song is awesome and fits it well."

Also, in the batman movies, I wish the "batman voice" was more like what Rorschach's voice sounds like.

Just finished reading the graphic novel tonight. Was really good. Will be interesting to see exactly how they'll play it in the film regarding setting. If it will continue to be in the cold war era or try to make it more current or set in the future.

I think they'll leave out the sub-plots of The Black Freighter story, Dr. Malcom/his wife, and the characters that go along with the newspaper stand. Although all have very strong points regarding the general theme of the book.

I heard that they won't be doing the giant squid thing that kills half of new york city and instead they are making it so somehow Dr. Manhattan kills everyone...if you watch the trailers you can see a bright blue explosion in the city

I should probably spoiler my response.

Yeah, I noticed that blue flash in the city as well, would be kind of an odd twist to have Dr. Manhattan do it, but whatev. The giant squid thing was one of the main things as well that I figured would probably be changed, just because it seems so damn odd.

I happened to see a "behind the scenes" thing briefly. It'll be the same time setting as the book. Newsstand characters will be in it as well, at least the Bernards will be.

I don't know if you guys have been keeping up with whats going on with the whole Fox/Warner Bros lawsuit going on with this, but basically the gist is that Fox acquired some rights back in the 80s, never really did anything with it, and didn't really complain about WB making a movie until closer to release (now). If I were the judge I would tell Fox to go fuck themselves. They knew this movie was in production for a couple of years now. They are waiting until the hog is fat for slaughter before they come into kill it, after they let it run right past them a couple years ago. As much as I hate to say it and admit it, I would gladly nerd rage boycott Wolverine if they fuck up this movie's release.
