Who knows the most about televisions?
All the nerds seem to trash Plasma TVs and say LCDs are the only reasonable route. Are Plasma TVs really that bad? Where can I get the best bang for my buck? I currently have a 46" Sharp Aquos LCD, and it's OK I suppose, I really don't see anything fantastic about it and it was very cheap (750 GBP), but this TV has been sold to my current flatmates, so I am in the TV market again. I do not want to go smaller than my current TV, so I guess I'm looking in the 46" to 52" range. Any suggestions? We bought our previous TV from Currys shop online for appliances, laptops, televisions, MP3 players, sat nav, digital cameras and camcorders, games consoles and more and they seem to have good prices. |

Both my TV and TV research are 1 year old; however, at that time, plasmas were known for better blacks whilst lcd's had more vibrant colors. It should be noted that the differences were minute and mostly invisible unless you're looking at them side by side.
Also, at that time (and currently, I'd imagine), plasmas were quite a bit cheaper when it came to the larger sizes. If you can't tell, I went plasma. I have 0 regrets. All the old BS about plasmas getting burn in is moot with current technology. It just doesn't happen. Even when DD Tempest falls asleep watching a shitty japanese western DVD and you wake up hours later with the title screen sitting motionless on the screen. That said, the old BS about lcd's lagging with action seems to be moot with current technology as well. I do know that, if you're looking at plasmas, there's a 3 tier hierarchy. Pioneer sits comfortably on the top of the pyramid (and also costs quite a bit more) with samsung & panasonic resting slightly below, and then the rest of the brands lining up some ways away from the top 3. ...and that's about it. Pretty sure everything is 1080p nowadays, so that doesn't matter either. |

I can just give you some info from my personal experiance. About a year ago, I purchased an RCA 52 inch LCD. It was realitively cheap as compared to the other few models that I was looking at. I have zero complaints about it.
I actually looked at about 4 different stores, with a salesman at Best Buy actually pointing me somewhere else. He was a buddy from college and said that to get the best tv for my money, go to Wal-Mart. I wasn't expecting to go there for a TV, but it turned out to save me 350 bucks and is the same quality as far as I'm concerned. This was a year ago, so I'm sure there is alot of things that have changed in the TV world since then, but if this can help you out at all, my day has been fulfilled! |

Another thing: And this may be assumed, but I'd suggest you to get big. As big as you think your room can handle (or maybe even a little bigger).
My prime seat is 9 or so feet away from the screen, which is 58". Doing research and whatnot, most places said that would be a little too close for this size; however, I disagree. In fact, I wouldn't mind it being a 63". Fuck it. Go big. |

If the room you're wanting to put the TV into gets a shload of sunlight or if reflections on the screen bother you, Plasma may not be the way to go. I know there are some Plasma screen covers that reduce glare and reflection, but who wants to mess with that shit? Stick with major brands and do your research.
TV Reviews: LCD tvs, HDTV, flat screen tvs, plasma tvs - CNET Reviews <-- would be a decent place to start. They review the shit out of tvs, phones, etc. |

Any of you guys doing this? I've been thinking about switching over from computer monitors to a widescreen tele with a monitor in. I'm thinking I might also need to upgrade my video card to get the resolution right, but I still think it'd be worth it.
Any recommendations as far as brands to stay away from? I keep seeing these "Vizio" screens everywhere, yet I've never heard of the company before about a year ago. Nothing fancy, but my budget would be about $400 and I'm hoping for something roughly 30 inches wide. |

If I were to suggest any actual model, I'd recommend the Panasonic CT-398. It is probably the most impressive tv I've seen in a while.
Check it out. http://reviews.cnet.com/televisions/brands/Panasonic/sitemap=CT398_001200073&k0 |

HotUKDeals - Deals - Electricals
Posted this site before, but if you need something and you want to know whats best/the best price, use it. Samsung 40" LCD TV LE40B550 - £574.99 with 5 year warranty. - COSTCO that's a great price with the warranty, or this badboy Panasonic TX-P50G10B Plasma FULL HD 1080p with FREESAT Built-In - 5 Year Warranty - C - HotUKDeals Forum Pliedes, i'm pretty sure there's a lot of ghosting on using a tv as a monitor? there used to be a few problems with it, not sure if HD has changed that. I know a little about monitors, but nothing on TV's, I have a shitty 32' because i'm waiting for the prices to drop a little more, I don't watch tv either. |
