COME ON YOU YANKS

I knew nothing about the storyline of Avatar before I went to see if. In fact, outside of knowing that it was about blue people, that it was directed by James Cameron, and that its budget was $300 million, I knew nothing at all about it. The main reason I wanted to see it was that I was curious what $300 million could do with today's technology.
It turns out it can do a lot. I saw the 3D version of the movie. While this made it just that much more visually-badass, the movie really didn't rely on the effect much. You know how most 3D showings, shorts or full length films, seem to have shit flying out at the audience constantly? That's not the case with this film. Sure, there are times when the effect is more intense than others, but, for the most part, it seems like a normal movie with a little extra depth. The 3D wasn't a crutch. It was just a cherry on top of the already-sweet visual effects. Speaking of which, the visual effects are amazing. Watching any Na'vi character (the natives...the blue fucks) felt like watching the regular actors. Each one was just another member of the cast. Furthermore, the storyline was badass. Absolutely badass. Sure, it was a bit predictable, but watching it unfold was still as entertaining as anything I've seen. If you've considered going to see this movie but you're not sure if it's worth it: It is. Go see it. If you haven't considered seeing this movie because you think it looks dumb: You're wrong. Stop being a dummy and go see it. Cliff notes: The movie is badass. Go see it. |

Overall I'd say it's a pretty bad ass movie.
The robots, mechs, and flying ships where all way awesome and I'd have sex with any of them. The animals and trees and shit where also awesome and I'd have sex with any of them. Michelle Rodriguez still can't act for shit, but I'd like to have sex with her. By the end of the movie wig sex between a horse monster and an 8 foot tall blue cat looks completely normal. Go see it in 3D unless you're a fag. |

Visually amazing. As Gaz said, the story was predictable - mainly because Cameron was basically telling the story of the Native Americans, only this time they're blue! The movie had obvious environmental and anti-war messages, which is to be expected. Some of the characters were decently fleshed out - some were stereotypes, and others were archetypes - the war mongering general with the beefy arms comes to mind.
All the aside, it was still a very good movie and worth seeing just for the visual effects alone. Some of the coolest parts were just watching the Na'vi run around the forest at night, which comes alive with movement and color. This is one of those movies that will spawn entire mythologies, and cause fan boys around the world to write fan fiction and furiously masturbate to the female Na'vis. |

The Na'vi already look enough like furries.
I was going to see 3D imax today but it was sold out pretty much everywhere. The seats that were available were in the front seat; did you guys not have to buy yours in advance? I'm talking shows 8 hours in advance were completely booked, everywhere in Seoul |

Psychedelics are illegal not because a loving government is concerned that you may jump out of a third story window. Psychedelics are illegal because they dissolve opinion structures and culturally laid down models of behavior and information processing.

I'll be seeing it sometime next week in the 3d imax version, haven't heard much bad about it so far, not sure what I think of 3D though, do you have to wear the glasses? I've been dissapointed with every other 3D film out there.

So I'm unable to see in 3D due to one eye being 20/20 and the other being 20/180. It basically makes it so 3D glasses won't work with me. Could anyone explain what its like? Do things basically jump out of the screen? I've always been curious.

How does that make it so 3D classes don't work? Can't you wear contact or something...then put on the glasses?
To answer your question: Yeah, basically. Shit can fly out of the screen at you (to the point where sometimes it feels like you should be able to touch it if you put your arm out). During normal scenes, it feels like you're part of the picture instead of looking at a screen. |

The first hour or so of this movie was awesome... the rest was kinda... meh.
I was kinda disappointed there weren't more beasties. Pandora didn't seem as dangerous as it was made out to be in the commercials and the beginning of the movie. There were only like a handful of large predators. That being said, I think I would have enjoyed the movie much more if those glasses weren't so goddam uncomfortable. I was adjusting that shit every 5 minutes and it made it pretty hard to get immersed in the movie. In the middle of fidgeting with my glasses I was like, "OK, now why is he in love with her again besides the fact shes got hot long blue legs and they smiled at each other a few times?" |

I would not have watched this movie if it weren't for this thread and Gaz's original recomendation. So I guess word of mouth works.
This may be the most visually sexy film I have ever seen (other than porn). For the first time when watching a 3d movie, I felt like the emphasis (or even purpose) was not to showcase 3d effects. The 3d is just a natural extention of making the film beautiful. The animated characters seem so realistic you can forget that they aren't real actors. Unfortuneately it is wrapped around a liberal sob-story. But I can live with that, because as homosexual as this movie was - it was still enjoyable. It didn't cross the line into man on man hardcore anal penetration. The characters were likeable, their causes seem worthy. I felt like this film was a bit like Toy Story. Toy Story took a new medium - computer animation, and paired it with a decent story to make a complete film. And it was a trailblazer in this regard. I don't know if we're going to see more 3d films in the future, but after watching Avatar I have to wonder: "Why not?" |

But I should mean that every man should receive those papers and be capable of reading them. ![]() |
