The "we'll send you an invitation as soon as we can" can be circumvented by using a sponsored landing page like An exclusive invitation to join Spotify from Coca Cola - Spotify. I got mine in ~8 hours as opposed to people waiting days (or longer) going through the homepage.

It is a program that you download that allows you to listen to virtually any music instantly, on demand, and at no charge. And it's legal.

You can upgrade at either $5 or $10 a month for various perks, but the main program that is free is very capable.

DJ FC's spotify tips:

If you opt for the premium membership ($10 a month is a small price to pay for so much goodness) you will be able to enable a "high quality audio" setting. Spotify music can be played at 320kbit/sec. Porn for audiophiles.

If I am your facebook friend IRL and you enable spotify to see your facebook, we can share playlists. It's a very cool feature.

On the iPhone you can have songs and playlists stored so that even if you don't have 3g reception you can still listen to your music. Itunes is now virtually worthless. You can put spotify into "offline mode" for up to 30 days meaning Spotify won't even attempt to contact it's server. Doing so allows you to use spotify on your iPhone and on your desktop simultaneously with only 1 license. All you have to do is periodically turn off "offline mode" (which you'll want to do anyways to stream music on demand and to sync your playlists, etc.)

There are some good websites hosting spotify playlists. Google them.

I just upgraded to Spotify premium. $10/month seems absurdly cheap to be able to listen ad-free, never run into any listening limits, and also be able to listen (even offline!) on my phone at the gym. Holy fuck I love Spotify.

After I upgraded, they gave me 10 invites to pass out, so let me know if anyone needs one.
