Agreed. I've been reading the chapter summaries to refresh my memory here and it's amazing how much I forgot.
It's kind of strange because even though the chapters are only 4-5 paragraphs long, I feel because I've already read it that i'm re-reading the entire chapters as my memory comes back to me. I've never done something like this before on such a massive scale, it's kind of like plugging into the matrix. Dance with Dragons comes out in like 9 days, i'm really excited. |

anyone else finish the dancing with dragons? While it was a lot better than a Feast For Crows I still felt a little disappointed - seemed like not much happened. The last two books it seems like they just add new story lines that seem to end while the shit I'm interested in rarely get mentioned.
I dread reading the next book since it will likely include Sam chapters. |

Samwell chapters are pretty terrible.
I finished DwD just a few days ago. Really great book, I'm really happy we got to finally see some real development with Dany and her Dragons, but was really disappointed about what happened to Jon. That being said, i'm not too surprised given his course of action lately and I also don't think it's the last we'll see of him --- pretty sure he'll go into Ghost's body for now. Really interested in what's going on with Catelyn/Brienne/Jaime too. Also Cersei's trial by combat should be really interesting, especially her revenge on the populace of King's Landing. The Aegon twist was really good, although for some reason I can't shake that it seems like they're retconning with that. He seems a bit too "perfect" and the conspiracy with Varys seems to being too well to actually let the desired effect happen though given GRRM's general way of fuckery. Great book, sucks it will take about 5 years for the next one probably unless GRMM has a lot of it done already. |

ya the new kingsguard is clearly Clegane the mountain made into a zombie.
Jon clearly had possession of the idiot ball this book. Not sure if Ned was worse. Glad to see him go. where the fuck is Rickon and the Onion smuggler? The thought of Bran turning into a Treeborg is pretty cool, not really sure what good it will do him though.. wish it would have went a little more into that instead of dropping him midway through the book. Nothing really moved forward very far in this book. Dany is no closer to Westoros. Dragons still aren't controlled. The white walkers aren't at all close to attacking the south (despite a large majority of this book being situated at the wall, was there even a peep from the Others or even a Wight?). No one really gained any ground in the power struggle tween stannis and lannister/bolton gang. Arya is still just training for shit. |

Obviously the kingguard is Clegane--that's been building up since his fight with the Red Viper. Although unless he's headless/has a different head, i'm curious about the skull sent to Dorne.
Jon had the right idea, namely in not focusing just on Wildlings being just as human as Westerosi, but that the dead Wildlings would become Others -- Bowen Marsh and those guys are being retarded, but I can definitely understand him just bringing in a shitload of Wildlings onto the Wall as being frowned upon. Kind of a dumb move. I'm really surprised at the lack of support that Jon is getting from the South, it really pisses me off. The circumstances are a lot different in this Jon assassination than with Lord Mormont -- in that the killers are still going to be out and about on the Wall. Wonder what will happen to them? Will the Wildlings take over? They have weapons and Jon was pretty much their only tie to being loyal to the Night's Watch. I'm really curious what's going on with Ramsay and Stannis? How did Ramsay know all that shit in the letter if he hadn't beaten Stannis? Unless he had just heard of Lightbringer and doesn't actually have it. The whole Mance Rayder thing is pretty funny. I have no fucking idea where Rickon is. It's starting to get annoying, he hasn't had one chapter in the entire series I don't think. If they just plop him as Lord of Winterfell in the last book i'm going to be pissed. But I imagine there will be a lot more development with him and Davos in the next book. I'm also upset Dany has no control over Drogon yet, but I think with the ending of this book she's starting to bond with him more -- sharing his meals and such. Should be interesting what happens with the Khalasar that just showed up --it was kinda her rival, I wonder how that will pan out |

collecting wildlings was smart. but he never learned to pick his battles. Like why let the catemite be his manservant when there is no strategic value in it, it just pisses everyone else off? dumb. Why burn the bridge with Melisandra and basically spit in her face when she has shown that she at least has some power?
Ramsey hasn't beaten stannis, shit was only half true. Reek and his sister are chilling in the snowdrifts with stannis. Ramsey flayed the fuck out of them bitches and they squealed info. I wouldn't be surprised if the majority of the next book was dedicated to dany being a captive of kal pono or whatever his name is and then in the final book she escapes or some shit and finally goes to westeros. |

I'm about 2/3 of the way done with Storm of Swords.
I can't fucking believe he killed Robb, Catelyn, and Arya. The Starks are the good guys in this series and the Lannisters are clearly the bad guys. Yet the bad guys keep winning, and winning in a way that does not allow the Starks to ever retaliate and win since they're dead. I hate this fucking book. |

I think the Starks are clearly the good guys. They are the most noble and kind of all the great houses in Westeros (to my knowledge). The Tyrells seem nice enough, but they're in bed with the Lannisters. The Baratheons were pretty good, too, but Robert and Renly are dead, and Stannis has lost his fucking mind. If it weren't for Davos being an all around good guy, Stannis might be even worse imo.
As for the Lannisters, I see your point in that it's not black and white in reference to their being good/bad. Joffery and Cersei are both vile pieces of shit, but Tyrion and Jamie seem to have some good in them. Tyrion might only be good, though, because he's disabled. And Jamie was kind of a douche up until his hand was cut off. Tywin I'm not sure about. He seems like a dick, but smarter than the others. I'll have to read more to make a final judgement about him. The point is that the Starks are without question the people of the story that everyone is rooting for to win. I was really hoping to read more about the King in the North. |

DH...the lines of "good guy" and "bad guy" aren't as clearly drawn IRL as in disney cartoons. That's the point he's making.

Good shit man. By the way, there are five books currently out right now. I'm on the fourth one. It's still pretty good.
The main problem I'm having with this book is the central theme of feminism. It's not that I have a problem with women's rights or anything like that. My problem is that the story almost feels forced in that direction in this book. There are many new characters, and we hear little from many of the previous books' main characters. It's still pretty good, and the end of each chapter still leaves you thinking, "fuuuuuuck, don't end there" as you have to start a new character chapter. |
