Or we could just remove the requirement to help an uninsured person and then we don't get footed with their bill. The idea of fining a person b/c he/she is uninsured is retarded. How do you get money out of people with no money? It's just the same problem written in a different way.

Taiwan has good national health care, with 99% of the population covered. Unfortunately it's not sustainable, despite how well planned and executed it's been. The government still has to borrow money to keep it going. Good for me I guess, since I'm only here for a year.

Senate approves health care reform bill - CNN.com
senate passes the bill. at this point i don't even know what this means with all the changes and basically have just been following what I can through CNN, but i am fairly sure that being in the mid-20s generally healthy white male demographic i'm probably not going to see many benefits of this for quite some time. |

You'll pay for it dearly, then when it's our time to cash in, it will be washed by the new wave of historic americans who do not rely on gov't for anything more than the essentials.

This universal health care coverage is bullshit. They're already talking about putting taxes on unhealthy foods and beverages, like coke. And why not? If we're all putting cash into the collective pile then we should tax fatties for consuming fatty things. The only problem is I don't want to be taxed for drinking a coke because I'm not a fatty. Healthcare needs to be fixed, but this is just stupid - it doesn't take away your liberties, it just makes you pay for them.
Oh, and did I mention our government is a few trillion in debt? Living in Taiwan, where they do have universal health care (and pretty good care too) I have the unique experience of enjoying coverage for the first time without having to worry about the program going bankrupt before I leave - which make no mistake, it is going bankrupt. That's the biggest issue with all of this universal coverage to begin with - it's not sustainable. /end rant. |

Let's not forget that health care is already socialized to an extent for the vast majority of health care consumers (the elderly) in the form of Medicare. The millions of uninsured Obama so often refers to are young people our age who rarely consume any health care with our current system. Of course that will change once everyone has free health care. Why wouldn't you go to the doctor every time you catch a cold or get an MRI every time you have a stomach ache? You're going to be shit out of luck if you actually need an MRI within six months. Higher patient volume + reduced health care professional wages = really shitty health care service. It's going to be great!

Well the obvious difference being that you don't have to have comprehensive insurance; so if the law was that you had to pay for OTHER people's illness that you cause with your body, there would be a point there. As is you already have to have the human body version of basic liability insurance, if you hurt somebody you have to pay for it; it is usually called tort assault and or battery, IE they sue your ass.
Also you don't have to have car insurance because you don't have to drive a car, you have to have life. Punishing people for not having comprehensive auto insurance when they don't own a car would be the better comparison. Oh, and then they will punish your insurance is too good as well; it has to be exactly what they say....and you have to pay for other peoples; not by choice and choosing to use the same insurance company, but because they have earned through the achievement of being dropped out of their 15 year old crack addicted whore of a mothers fuck flap and collect your taxes. Basically it is just one giant "fuck you" to anybody who has any sense that human beings should have the tiniest bit of autonomy and freedom. |

I can already see the political cartoons now... Obama sitting there, with booze in one hand, a cigarrette in the other, smiling about the passage of health care. He gets something whispered to him and he asks, "What's the 10th amendment?"

If we had this socialized health care system 5 years ago, my grandfather would not be alive. He had a heart attack and needed triple by-pass surgery. Of course with the current system (or I guess now it would be the previous system) he was able to get this procedure done and continue living his life. I've gone golfing and spent a lot of quality time with him since his procedure. It was well worth it.
However, under this new bullshit system, my grandfather would have been dead 5 years ago. Why is that you ask? Because under this socialized system where the rich pay for the poor's health care, there will be this nice little committee known as a death committee. They would have weighed the costs and benefits of providing this procedure. They would say, "well he's already 75, after the surgery he's probably only going to live a maximum of 10 more years. During these 10 years he's going to be retired, his body will be deteriorating, and he will likely require even more health care. We're going to just let him die." And that would be it. My grandpa would be fucking dead and the last 5 years of memories I've had with him would never have existed. These are scary times we're living in. You can probably forget about getting experimental treatment for rare diseases and aggressive cancers. The government sure as fuck isn't going to pay for that. And I bet 10 bucks that the frequency of deaths in hospitals and nursing homes due to neglect and poor quality of care increase 10 fold. |

Sure, the Healthcare Reform Bill passing may not be the greatest. But going as far as to say that it would kill your grandfather via 'death committee' is naive.

Oh really? Who's being naive Fruity faggot? Go ahead and look at the UK, look at Canada, look at any fucking nation that has socialized health care and what will you find? You will find that they all have death committee's you stupid ignorant liberal bastard. The extent of care is going to be rationed based on how effective it will be and the extent of which it will improve the quality of life. Men much better than you have told me this same story. If you don't want to believe me that's fine, be wrong then.
