While watching the Cal vs Virgina Tech game, i got to thinking damn this was a good year in sports. Reflecting further i concluded that 2003 was problaby one of the best years in sports in a long long time, it was just unbelievable everything that went down.

A recap of memorable events. Granted this is just off the top of my head so feel free to add events or detail, i wont be offended.

-January 3rd- OSU vs Miami in the Fiesta Bowl, some claim it as one of the best college football games ever, as the national championship game endured 2 overtimes.

-Lebron James- Goes into the NBA full stride, living up to the hype.

-Lance Armstrong- Wins tour de france, despite suffering a collision with another biker.

-Baseball- Two of baseballs most cursed, and loved teams are within 5 outs of the World Series, only to be spoiled by shit luck. The $kankees also lost to the Marlins, which was a nice change.

-NFL- I used to be a huge NFL fan up until about 6th/7th grade when the games became dull and boring to watch compared with college. This season however restored some of my interest as games were much closer, insane comebacks, overtime wins, and plays like that of the Saints contributed to this. Its been a very close season, and i'm anticipating how things wrap up in the playoffs.

-NBA- The most anticipated season ever, carmello anthony, and lebron making their appearances, along with a stacked Lakers team. There hasnt been this much attention to basketball since when the Bulls were in their prime. There also has been negative attention associated with Kobe Bryant, which is a story all its own, either way adding to the anticipation that accumulated for this season.

-College Football- Maruice Clarret being a douche and challenging the NFL, and numerous coaches being fired for various transgressions agaisnt their respective universities highlighted the preseason. The season kicked off with alot of upsets, and unusual suprises. Such as Winslow going ape shit, and his teams unsual mediocre season, Oklahoma losing to KSU, Cal over USC, Wisconsin over OSU, Oregon over Michigan, etc, etc. All of this of course led to the biggest BCS controvery ever, which will not be solved until next year. But for the time being the bowl games thus far have been outstanding, 3 overtime games, and 1 game with a last second field goal, and of course the Houston vs Hawaii brawl that was funny as hell to watch. I think this will be another great bowl season, and will be an excellent way to cap off a great year of sports.

With this said, i think it presents 2003 as one of the most entertainting, controversial, sports years in quite awhile. But anyways what are your thoughts on this? Am i right or am i right?

Nice thread, if I wasn't so tired, I'd make a nicer more thoughtful post. You'll have to take my mediocre shit:

A few highlights that stick out in my mind from 2003 would be-

*The Steve Bartman incident in Game 6 of the NLCS for the Cubs
*The fact that the Cubs were in the NLCS
*Dante Hall's 9x-yard punt return that he made earlier in the season
*The OSU/Miami game (even though that seems like too long ago to be this year...ps: Miami was robbed)
*Giving Michael Jordan a high-five at the end of his last season, then a few months later giving Lebron James a high five at the beginning of his first season...sorta neat for me
*The Kobe soap opera
*Brett Farve's 4 TDs in the first half the day after his dad died
*Jamal Lewis's incredible season
*Andy Roddick winning his first major

Most Entertaining Athlete to Watch in 2003

Lebron James

Biggest Sports-Related Disappointment of 2003

The Games 6 and 7 performace in the NLCS by the Chicago Cubs

Fare The Well

Michael Jordan
Roger Clemens
Bruce Smith

It was a nice year for sports.

...next year.
