The lead up and results of the two

Quinton Rampage Jackson vs Wanderlei Silva
vs
http://www.sherdog.com/fightfinder/f...?fighterID=348 vs
http://www.sherdog.com/fightfinder/f...?FighterID=209
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quinton_Jackson vs http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wanderlei_Silva

Highlight of what my post is going to explain
http://www.livevideo.com/video/CA618...n-enemies.aspx

These were two of the best, and most important fights in recent history, with the first fight being the more significant and the second being the slightly better fight.

To set up the first fight, Quinton was coming in after Debuting in Pride against Kazushi Sakuraba, a huge fan favorite in Japan and one of the most important fighters in history, known for beating 4 gracies, and beating many larger opponents of equal or even seemingly better skill. Quinton lost the fight eventually, but put on such an amazing show of raw athleticism, without much real training, that his star was born.

He then went on a run of handing out ass kickings left and right (although he got DQ'd in one fight)

The most impressive of his wins was probably the devestating KO of Kevin Randleman, former UFC HW champion and 2 time NCAA wrestling champion for Ohio State.

Kevin shot in for the double leg, and Rampage got underhooks and blasted one of the best combos ever, a right knee to the head, right uppercut, and left hook knocking Randleman down, then taking the mount and landing a few more punches to finish it off.

Rampage then was entered into the 2004 Pride 205lb Grand Prix, in which Chuck Liddell was entered as a UFC representative. Chuck and Wanderlei were the two favorites and expected to meet in the final for the belt.

In the first Round of the GP Rampage won a decision over Murilio Bustamante, and then entered into the first match with Chuck, who had KO'd Alistair Overeem in the first round. The Chuck fight was, saving a few moments, a beatdown handed out by Rampage, wearing Chuck down and forcing Chucks corner to throw in the towel while he was taking knees on the ground. This placed Rampage in the final.

Now For the story of Wanderlei. As I mentioned in the old post, Wandy was a star of "Vale Tudo" (anything goes) in Brazil, fighting for the IVC organization, and was known for his brawling style of Muay Thai kickboxing and his relentess attack, basically straddling that fine line between competitor and pyschopath at times. Wanderlei racked up wins over a few solid fighters in the IVC, with the biggest being over Mike Van Arsdale an absolutely great wrestler who would later turn out to be just short of the top tier of MMA, yet still a very solid fighter, he now handles the strength and conditioning for Greg Jacksons fighters in Arizona.

Wandy then moved on to the UFC, where he actually racked up 2 losses to Vitor Belfort and Tito Ortiz and 1 win. Wandy was also starting to fight for Pride at this time, where he would go on to be one of the most dominant fighters on the planet. Wanderlei made his way to the finals of the 2004 205lb tournament by a crushing 1--2 combo for his 3rd victory over Kazushi Sakuraba, and then winning a decision over Judo gold medal winner and legend Hidehiko Yoshida

The first fight
http://www.dailymotion.com/relevance/search/silva+rampage/video/x7vyd_vanderlei-silva-vs-rampage-jackson
The setup for the second fight was basically Rampage running off a few more wins, and then calling out Silva from the ring after he damn near powerbomed Ricardo Arona through the ring.

http://www.dailymotion.com/relevance/search/rampage+arona/video/x2h9cd_rampage-arona-slam_sport
Silva then got in the ring and pushed Rampage, almost starting a riot in the ring.

The second fight
was a fucking beauty, with a solid first round for Rampage, and then one of the most brutal finishes in MMA

The Saitiev brothers, two of the best in the world, with the older, Buvasair being probably the best pound for pound wrestler in the world if not the best pound for pound combat sport athlete in the world, and his younger brother Adam being one of the best in his weight class. Both are from Dagestan but consider themselves Chechen ethnically.

Both have a style a little different than most American wrestlers who usually start out in Folkstyle compared to the International Freestyle. They both wrestle more from the clinch, and are both insanely good at it, getting alot of throws, trips, and snapdowns. They don't shoot for the legs as much as most Americans.

Buvaisar Saitiev

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buvaisar_Saitiev

Buvaisar is the older and and actually slightly bigger brother, despite wrestling in the smaller 74kg / 162lb category. The reason is that Adam isn't quite small enough to make 66kg / 145lbs, and can't beat Buvaisar at 74 so he wrestles at 84kg / 184lbs.

Buvaisar won his first gold medal in 1996, and then went undefeated until the 2000 games where he was upset by the eventual Gold Medal winner, American Brandon Slay. Buvaisar then went on to win the 2004 gold and plans on entering the 2008 games too, and has a good shot at winning.

At the 2004 games there was a really disputed match between Saitiev and a Belarussian wrester and basically a melee broke out, with reports of punches being thrown.

Highlight

Matches

Adam Saitiev

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adam_Saitiev

Adam is not quite as good as his brother, but his results are almost as impressive as he is wrestling almost 2 categories up in weight, and still has a gold medal to his name, which he won in 2000.

Matches
The first match is actually against Cael Sanderson, who most of you have probably heard of, the guy from Iowa State who went undefeated in college and then won a gold medal. Just to show how good Adam is, this was considered a pretty big upset, which also goes to show how good Cael is too.

Big, Typical French Thai fighter. Pretty good striker, fringe k1 level, claims to have a greco background, but he has no visibile takedown defense, Jiu Jitsu is also low level.

Should turn into a kickboxing match more or less, which would give the edge to Mirko, although it definetly is Kongo's strength, if Mirko were to go in with a GnP strategy it would be a blow out, but I don't think he will.

Summary, Kongo appears to be somebody who pissed off the UFC matchmakers.

Ladies and Gentlemen, on the eve of his upcoming Defense of his Heavyweight Title against Gabriel Gonzaga, I present to you three time Heavyweight Champion, Two Time Lightheavyweight champion, and UFC hall of Famer:

Randy Couture

http://www.sherdog.com/fightfinder/f...?fighterID=166
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Randy_Couture

Call him Captain America, call him The Natural, or simply refer to him as I do, as God and suspect that his left ear will eventually burst and give birth to the messiah.

Randy got his start as a wrestler, I don't know much about his high school career, but I'll go out on a limb and say it was pretty damn good. After High School Randy served in the Army from 1982-1988, where he contiued wrestling, and did a few Boxing matches, which might have been part of the spark for him wanting to fight MMA.

After the Army Randy went to Oklahoma State, where he was a 3 time All American, coming up second in 1991 and 1992, losing in 92 to none other than Mark Kerr, fellow future MMA champion. Also winning championships that year were Kevin Randleman another future MMA champion and Kurt Angle future Olympic gold medalist, a very good year for American wrestling and for MMA.

Randy losing the 91 NCAA 190lb title to Paul Keysaw

While Randy was a very accomplished Folkstyle wrestler, where he really shined was as a Greco Roman wrestler, winning 3 national titles in 1990, 1993, and 1997, the first two at 198lbs and the third at 213lbs. Randy was also a 2 time Olympic team alternate.

Now, onto Randy the MMA fighter. Randy is one of the few guys who actually got his start fighting in the UFC instead of a lower level promotion, winning the Heavyweight tournament at UFC 13.

Randy was one of the original members of Team Questhttp://www.tqfc.com/ a group of wrestlers turned MMA fighters, with the most notable members being Dan Henderson, Matt Lindland, and Randy
http://www.danhenderson.com/pictures...pening%201.JPG
Three bad mother fuckers with fucked up ears, with each guy being at worst a top three guy in their respective weightclass (Dan at 205, Matt at 185, and Randy at HW)

Next came the first time the world learned that you never bet against Couture, you just don't do it, when he beat the undefeated and seemingly invincible young Brazillian Vitor Belfort, who was tearing through everything in front of him like a buzzsaw.

Highlight of Vitor Belfort around this time

Randy ground Vitor down using his typical style of "Dirty Boxing" a style of mixing standing wrestling positioning and grips with punches which Randy was one of the pioneers of using, basically holding and hitting, along with his unreal takedowns, and punishing ground and pound.

Next came his first Title fight, against Maurice Smith, a great kickboxer who was a pioneer for strikers learning to defend the takedown and keep the fight standing. Smith had won the title by defeating Mark Coleman a bigger and more highly decorated wrestler than Randy. This fight is again proof that you don't bet against Couture, it also to me is a defining moment for Randy, as he proved he was able to parlay his already amazing wrestling into MMA better than other amazing wrestlers, by focusing on striking, submission defense, and most importantly conditoning, and gamplaning.

At this point Randy left the UFC to fight for two Japanese organizations, Vale Tudo Japan and RINGS, where he would record his first two losses, and show his newness to submissions although to be fair RINGS had highly restrictive rules which didn't allow Randy to fight to the best of his ability, namely no punching the head of a grounded opponent, Randy's bread and butter.

After racking up some impressive wins in the Rings King of Kings 2000 tournament, This was the second King of Kings tournament with the 1999 version being won by Randy's Teammate Dan Henderson. The 2000 version included Fedor, Ricardo Arona, Anontonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Babalu, Jeremy Horn, and Valentijn Overeem, who eventually put Randy out of the tournament with a Guillotine choke.

Randy fighting in RINGS
vs Jeremy Horn
vs Overeem

Interestingly enough, between rounds of the tournament, Randy went back to the UFC to win back his HW title which he was stripped of for leaving the organization and losing, by defeating Kevin Randleman, one of the most naturally gifted (alot of which appears to have been wasted) MMA fighters and another wrestler who was as good or better than Randy, at least in Folkstyle where he won 2 NCAA titles with second place finish, he never went on to compete in the international styles though and Randy was the better Greco Roman wrestler. But again, Randy showed that he was better able to use his wrestling in MMA better than other wrestlers who were as good or better than him.

Highlight of Randleman, "The Monster"

Once Randy was back in the UFC, he would defend his belt twice in two great fights against Pedro Rizzo a Brazillian fighter who started in the bare knuckle Vale Tudo fights in Brazil, trained by Marco Ruas, the prototypical Brazillian Muay Thai mixed with Jiu Jitsu fighter, who Rizzo took after, with a great deal of success. Rizzo was also coming off of a badass KO of Josh Barnett.

http://www.dailymotion.com/relevance/search/Pedro+Rizzo/video/xmxg7_roman-zentsov-vs-pedro-rizzo_extreme Recently getting his own head removed by Roman Zentsov

Rizzo Highlight

Ok, got off on a little tangent about Rizzo there, but oh well.

Randy would then go on to lose to Josh Barnett and Ricco Rodriguez, which is why many people think he will lose to Gonzaga, since he is also a bigger submission based grappler, the same as Barnett and Ricco, its certainly a valid point but I don't see it happening, Randy is such a smarter fighter nowadays.

The move to 205
The loses to bigger grapplers and the general increasing size of MMA Heavyweights ment that it was time for Randy to compete against people more his size, the lightheavyweight division.

The first Chuck Fight
http://www.guba.com/watch/3000009743

Everybody seemed to think that Randy was past his prime and that Chuck would simply walk through him.
Randy once again proved you never bet against him when he was matched up for the first of 3 fights with Chuck Liddell, all great fights, and all championship fights.

The first Chuck fight was really the introduction of the modern Randy Couture, he came out with the perfect gameplan, actually outstruck Chuck Liddell on the feet, and was able to box his way into the clinch, get the takedown, and finally hold Chuck Down long enough to pound him out for the TKO.

Randy was now the interim 205 champion in the UFC, since Tito Ortiz refused to defend the belt against Chuck, but now Tito would be forced to face Couture to unify the belts.

The Tito Fight
http://video.google.com/videohosted?...=ortiz+couture part 1/4

part 2/4

part 3/4

part 4/4

Randy basically schooled Tito for 25 minutes, outstriking Tito, Taking Tito down at will, and being in better shape, even at one point holding down Tito and literally spanking his ass to mock him.

Next came the rematch with Vitor, which ended on a weird note, with Vitor landing a punch that cut Randy's eyelid, forcing the fight to be stopped by the doctors. A shitty way to have to lose the title, but those are the breaks.

In the rubbermatch Randy would give us some of the most iconic images in MMA history, thanks to his white shorts and glove tape turning red from the blood of Vitor, who was cut open after being dumped on the ground and elbowed and punched repeatedly, with Randy winning back the belt.

Chuck 2, Mike Van Arsdale, Chuck 3
Randy vs Liddell 2

In between these fights Randy would submit excellent wrestler and old school guy Mike Van Arsdale, in a great matchup of high level wrestling.

Randy vs Liddell 3

Retirement
After the 3rd Chuck fight, Randy would announce his retirement, after giving the fans every ounce of himself up to the age of 42.

here's a corny but good HL that came out during the retirement
http://www.dailymotion.com/relevance/search/randy+couture/video/xuilq_a-farewell-to-captain-america_extreme
One of the signs that Randy was not really going to stay retired was his grappling match with Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza, one of the 3 best sport grapplers in the world.

Jacare Highlight

Randy vs Jacare fucked up auido and not the whole fight, but the match was pretty damn boring
http://www.dailymotion.com/relevance/search/couture+jacare/video/x1mq0f_randy-couture-vs-ronaldo-jacare-sou_sport
Jacare was all defense while standing, avoiding the takedown, and then Randy was all defense once the match hit the ground when Jacare pulled guard.

While the match pretty much sucked, it would be like a top triathlete retireing, entering the tour de france, and tieing for the win.

The comback
It was soon announced that Randy would be coming back, this time as a heavyweight again, and fighting for the title, against Tim Sylvia. Alot of people once again wrote Couture off as old and wased up, along with far too small.

Couture vs Syliva
http://video.google.com/videohosted?...couture+sylvia

The doubters were once more sat down.

The fight was unbelievable, Randy came right out and put Sylvia on his ass with a big right hand, and then never let up the entire fight, one of the most one sided 5 round fights ever fought, with Randy never backing off.

Highlight of retirement and comeback
http://www.dailymotion.com/relevance/search/randy+couture/video/x2fg8x_randy-couture-highlight-road-to-the_extreme
General Highlights

Gonzaga
Gonzaga ruined the plans of a Randy vs CroCop title fight by doing, well this

Randy actually predicted the Gonzaga win and said that CroCop would be the preferable match up to him.

The animated recap (must see)

Back to Randy

Randy has recently left Team Quest, although they still remain on good terms, first to open Legends gym in LA with Bas Rutten and Eddie Bravo, and then to open his own line of gyms across the country, and his own fight team in Vegas. It seems like everybody is wanting to train with Randy these days, with the newest recruit being Wanderlei Silva

It's cliche, but its true, he's just that good. And he was in the Army for 6 years, so I don't feel shallow talking about him as a hero either.

I didn't want to spoil it, but jesus fucking christ, Randy is unbelievable. He didn't just beat him, he fucking destroyed him, and he had to beat him twice because Herb Dean fucked up. But whats Randy do? Goes out there and acts like Randy motherfucking Couture, the legend.

There is nobody more worthy of praise in any sport at this point in time.

Dan Henderson's Quest for the belt.

Dan will be unifying the 205lb Pride and UFC titles for the first time ever becoming a truely unified MMA world champion this weekend, to go along with being the first person to every hold titles in 2 weight classes (205 and 185) at the same time when he faces Quinton Rampage Jackson this weekend.

This documentary covers his training, having a new baby on the way and then delivered, and other aspects of his personal and profesional life.

Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
Part 4

I feel good about Hendo's chances, he's got a great training camp and brought in some good outsiders, Jorgen Kruth being a great addition especially. If we see Dan as he was in his last 2 fights, against a roided out Vitor and knocking out Wandy, he will win.

Radio Host :"You could be the toughest person in the world"
Hendo: "I am goddamnit"

War Hendo!

This is going to be a great fight. Neither hendo nor Rampage have an ounce of quit in them. Rampage has the size advantage, but I think Hendo is tougher.

I predict an absolute war. Anything else is just speculation.

Yeah, he had no chance at all.
How Bisping won I do not know, maybe the judges were influenced by the crowd.
I really liked how jackson rolled out of what seemed like an arm lock, third round i think.

there is little I wouldn't do for a dolphin.

One of the judges scored it 30-27 to. That is ridiculous. I couldn't believe they gave him that decision!

The 30-27 score was for Hamill, and I think thats alot more reasonable than 29-28 for Bisping, which is a fucking crime.

I could have sworn that there was a 30-27 Bisbing. But I totally agree with you.

that Bisping/Hamil score was unfuckingbelieveable. I actually left the TV area for the decision to go get something to eat upstairs. When I came back and saw Bisping being interviewed I wanted to puke. If thats not Dana White and the UFC politics at its best I don't know what is. Bisping is the more marketable guy in England so lets ride our cash cow, what a fucking joke. I lost a lot of respect for the UFC after that fight.

There's life and then there is Cubs baseball, it's a chore to seperate the two.

It was a bad decision, but I've seen worse.

No, that was pretty close too.

I was thinking more along the lines of Rampage vs Ninja
