If he really is the second coming of Steve Nash the Knicks could be a contender pretty quickly. Tyson Chandler playing great at 5 spot and they've got some workable 2 guards in Landry Fields and Iman Shumpert. If it gels with Melo and A'mare could be a legit contender for next few years.

It's too early to tell. Didn't Brandon Jennings go nuts his first couple of weeks as a rookie putting up 50 at least once. Jennings can play and is serviceable player. Lin probably will be okay as well.

The knicks don't appear to be great and going anywhere. That's a roster with a lot of problems and cap issues. Their roster money is tied to Anthony, Stoudemire, and to a lesser degree, Chandler. All three will have salary increases that already will require cuts by 2013. New York would love dearly to sign J.R. Smith. All they have is a 2.5 cap exception to get that done. Lin is a restricted freeagent after this year. The Knicks can match anything up to the full mid-level cap exception (5 million). Doing so forfeits their exception and they could not sign any other free agents (including their own) if over the luxury tax. So, if a team back loads a Lin deal for say 12-13 per year, the Knicks would be fucked if they matched it. Jennings is probably only a fair comparison for a guy who came out of nowhere suddenly a lit it up. If Brandon Jennings did what he did in New York, we never would have heard the end of it. | |

Not really because it's working.
Nicks tickets have tripled in price. They're going to sell out their road games. Every kid in China is going to buy a Lin jersey. The hype is hardly "desperate" by any means at all. It's warranted. And the fact that this is all going on doesn't "ruin" the story. There wouldn't be much of a story in the first place if people weren't excited. People are always going to have varying levels of excitement on any subject. Just because some people are more excited than you about something should not be cause for you to be a douche-bag and hand-wavily claim it's all ruined. Get off your high horse for once and try to just appreciate something without being a complete doosh. |

Didn't even think of the Chinese angle that FC mentioned. Not sure how that plays out. Lin is after all American born of some Asian lineage (are we even sure it's Chinese?). Would that make a difference to China as Lin isn't exactly a member of the Chinese national team that made good like Yao Ming. But fuck if know. Good shit to ponder.

Psychedelics are illegal not because a loving government is concerned that you may jump out of a third story window. Psychedelics are illegal because they dissolve opinion structures and culturally laid down models of behavior and information processing.

Steve Nash put up those numbers and never got this kind of attention. Lin is playing great, but not like he's the best talent in the league. If he were white or black, this story wouldn't be lead on every sports show, every day for two straight weeks.

Not really. Because Steve Nash was a bigger deal than this guy. And people noticed.

At no point did media cover Steve Nash like they are doing for Lin right now.

Not a damn thing. I'm not really sure what is your Nash point after your clarification. Nash was a first round pick, always had great upside, was blocked behind Kevin Johnson and Jason Kidd in Phoenix, gets moved to Dallas early in his career after his asst. coach in Phoenix moved to Dallas. Quickly becomes an All-Star. Signs as a free agent back in Phoenix wins back to back MVPs.
There's always been talk of Steve Nash. From whether the Suns should move KJ to whether his injuries will hurt the Mavs in the playoffs to whether or not he can lead the Suns to a title to whether or not he really deserved either of his MVPs. There's always been Nash talk. Other than playing point guard, there's really nothing similar to Nash and Lin. SIDE NOTE. Just wondering is Lin making the Knicks better or is having Carmelo Anthony addition by subtraction. Just good things seem to happen when Anthony stops playing for the team he was/is on. |
