Why do we even have a student council? I think it is completely pointless and they get nothing accomplished. I have many friends that are in student council and they say all they have to do is go to the meetings and that is it. Maybe they don't get stuff done because of our school board, or maybe its because nobody gives a flyin fuck.

Actually, I know some people in student council and they do get stuff done. The seniors organize Senior Semi-Formal, the Juniors do Prom and also take care of the concessions at basketball games. If it weren't for student council, all prom would be is the school renting out some place to have it, it wouldn't have all of the cool decorations, and there most likely wouldn't be a Senior Semi-Formal. A group of them also meets with Dr. Brumfield every other friday to try and get the students heard. They do a lot more, but I'm not going to name everything because nobody really cares, the point is, they do do quite a bit.

Basically, the student council is there for a couple reasons.
1. it looks good on college applications.
2. it makes most of the students feel like they actually have a voice and can be, in part, responsible for change.
by making it seem like the students have representation that can make an impact, it keeps the masses off the backs of the administration. they, instead, are told to look to their elected officials to instigate change. obviously, nothing important (beyond the all important prom decor and concessions) will ever be done by student council.

First, the senior class president is a guy...
Second, while it is true that the meetings of student council are simply 'going through the motions', and there really isn't much room to 'make a difference' but they do a hell of a lot of stuff... A big thing that affects everyone for instance, is the pop machines, those are only there because of student council, then there are the big things, but obvious ones, like concessions, prom, semi-formal, and such, hell, they plan graduation. Then they do all sorts of communitry service work like working at the soup kitchen and the can food drives...
While there isn't much room for new stuff in student council, they are there to do important stuff already...

OK...i'll give it to them. They do plan prom and semi formal but i am talking about other things that go on in our school. If we need to get something done that the "Students" want then its never going to happen. Granted mrs. Brumfield does do a better job but the only thing you get out of it is it looks good on your college applications. I would like someone to name one thing that they do good for US!!! It can't be something that they are obligated to do...they have to do things like plan our semi formal and prom. Other than that...what other good things have they done for us?
