you know what the funniest part about all of this is? i guaranfuckingtee that you all are assuming these things based off of the fact that i have piercings. you can't handle someone different, so you attack their lifestyle. you want to talk about earning respect when you get older? try this phrase: to get respect you have to fucking give it.

The world isn't supposed to be one way or another, Butcher, but you'd be wise to realize that if people who have experienced a much greater portion of life than you act a certain way; there must be some value in it. I don't think I'm a good person at all, rather, I'm a pretty good waste of life right now.

But I do recognize that there are people who are older, wiser, and more experienced than me. And these people may be able to teach me a thing or two about life if I don't write them off instantly as "old conformists to a self perpetuating cycle."

This is all, you aren't unique. We've all felt this way; and most of us learn (sooner or later) that the things we've been told in the past may have some varying degrees of value. Don't forget to think for yourself. Never forget to think for yourself, but don't throw away the wisdom of others. They are people who have lived in your shoes and survived to the next level.

dj, that post was amazingly well-crafted. for that, i applaud you. there is much validity in it, probably due to the fact that you stopped trying to be a dick.

however, that does not change the fact that bloody, ironic, carnivorous, repug, and so on, are complete tools in life. i would rather kill myself than become even a shred of what they are. i have a certain way that i think life should be, and i have a certain way that i think it should be gone about. however, i will never compromise my life for anything or anybody. older people are wiser in certain aspects, yes, but that doesn't mean that i have to heed their advice or warning. for all they know, my view could be completely different than theirs, even if it's something that they have experienced or know more about. it may be the "best" way or the "correct" way to do something, but by no means is it the only way to do it.

i work daily with people that are both younger and older than me. it just so happens that i'm the manager and they all have positions that are deemed "lower" than mine. i've never once judged any of them because i respect them. i respect the 40 yar old dishwashers as much as i respect the 21 year old hot ass bartenders. because of this they respect me and dont feel a need to 'fuck the system'.
demanding doesnt work, give some respect and you'll get it. then you'll never have to 'grow up' and be a sheep.

and butcher, i was prolly way more wacked the fuck out at 18 than you are, but things change, you'll feel differently in a couple years.
i used to hate tomatoes and tequila, now i love them.
