I make bad decisions.

This might belong in Sports, but since its more along the lines of betting, and an opportunity at free $, I figured I'd post it in here.
http://www.mansion.com/Portal.aspx " Simply visit the MANSION Sportsbook and place a minimum Point Spread (Handicap) bet of USD 1,100 to win USD 1,000 (or currency equivalent) on the Pittsburgh Steelers for their game on Thursday 7 Sep 2006. (00:30 GMT 8 Sep 2006) If your bet is not a winner, MANSION will refund your losses of USD 1,100 (or currency equivalent)." So basically, drop an $1100 bet on Pittsburgh to beat Miami on Mansion for a freeroll for $1000, or place the bet there and hedge elsewhere for a guaranteed profit of 450-500. You're welcome. |

Mansion is a huge site and is trying to attract people with larger bankrolls to their site for sportsbetting. Think of it this way, this is marketing genious. You're attracting people that have the ability to drop $1100 on one bet, and they are now creating an account to your sportsbook. EVERY serious better is going to go out there and take this freeroll, they'd be silly not to. They are going to attract many many new customers with this promotion at the beginning of the NFL season (which, I'd assume is the largest portion of sportsbetting.) Once they have these customers to their site, if the Steelers lose, Mansion has gained thousands of new customers that now have accounts at their site, and have lost zero dollars. Take it Pittsburgh covers, yes Mansion is going to be paying out a shit ton of cash, but its very possible that its still less than the advertising that they normally do. At this point, every person that took the freeroll bet now has an account with $2100 in it. The stipulation is that it takes 3 days to cashout, and one has to verify ID (this is done simply by scanning your ID and sending it to them), many people will be lazy about this and not do it for a while and think "hell, i've already got a ton of money on Mansion I'll go back and make another bet this week on the Steelers since I had so much fun rooting for them last week." As well as the person that bets week to week or more often than that, will often just keep their money on their until they are ready to cash out. Mansion is a huge sportsbook/online casino as well, I don't see them going anywhere. They do a lot of big things with their events and advertising. PokerDome, the Holyfield fight, a few other things I can't remember.

I got this offer, too, and couldn't/can't get my money in there in time. It's a damn sure thing. Mansion is doing all the right things to become an instant name in online gambling.

So here's a better deal... If you can somehow figure out how to get $1100 on Mansion between now and the game on Wednesday, I suggest doing it. Then make a $500 bet on a different site (or casino) on the Dolphins to win.
This way if... The Steelers win, you get the 1k from Mansion and lose $500 from the other place, netting $500. If the Dolphins win, you get your 1.1k back from Mansion and you win your $500 bet on the Dolphins, netting $500. So... do you gamble for 1k or take a guaranteed $500? I've seen this discussed before on forums and now the opportunity has come. If you want step by step details... go here... http://bet2k.com/mansionhedge.html |

It seems too obvious, there must be a catch.

The catch is that it will bring millions of dollars into their sportsbook and a lot of attention. Perhaps you are unaware of the tens of millions that the big poker sites make each day. If you think there is something wrong with Mansion for this offer, just think about giving away over $2M for the pokerdome tourney and that they paid $100M to have it aired weekly for 3 years. This little promo sounds more like garbage scraps now, doesn't it?

"NFL Sportsbook Offer has ended. Fully subscribed by members wagering USD5.5 Million. Mansion wishes the best of luck to our participating Members."
This INFURIATES me, as I sent an international wire yesterday to Mansion and my money is STILL not even showing up on the site. I get that they are bogged down with a lot of work, but I fucking wired the money for a reason. I'd like to know how I'm getting my $40 back, too. |

It finally went through several days late. Just like I am sure they wanted, I have left it in there to take advantage of their sports exchange, since the betting rates are much cheaper than a standard sportsbook, and since I bet on sports anyway, I'm just using the money that is in there for that.

How many people do you think "barely" missed the deadline. They engineered this scam this way, the odds of you successfully fully participating were very low.

Being that it was up for at least a week and a half before I posted it on here, would be an indicator of that. Mansion was willing to risk $5.5M on the deal and once it hit that cap the bet was off. It was still going on while I had posted it on here as well.
I still don't see how you think this is a scam. |

Because $500 is never free, and the only example we have is somebody who tried to do it but "couldn't get the transaction to finish in time," its fucking engineered this way, they throw so many obsticles at you to make it hard to join the deal, and even more to get your money out, so you become frustrated and leave your money in.

I understand the logic behind what you are saying, and I believe I even mentioned it to begin with. Do you not think that 5.5M is nothing to them and is probably cheaper than a widespread television/magazine advertisement promotion?
