Life isn't about being happy or finding love, it's about having purpose. When you have purpose everything else falls in line. I think anyone can find purpose, the trick is to set your goal(s) high enough. There is no bigger waste in my opinion than unreached potential. If you're not striving in pursuit of a lofty goal then you are wasting your time. I really feel like just enjoying life isn't enough, because even that guy who gets drunk every night and sleeps with tons of women will eventually look for something more.
For me life would be unbearable without purpose. Cars, money, women, these are things that give me immediate gratification but no self gratification. I need validation for my existence, I not only need to gain self respect I need the respect of my contemporaries, gained through the honing of my craft, hard work and self discipline. I need, when it is all said and done, to have a place amongst all the great avatars of history. I want people to read about me in anthologies, to study my work and stand on my shoulders to reach that next plateau. My craft is writing, and one day I hope to gain prestige and notoriety from it and because of it. Being the best writer I can be is my purpose, it's what keeps me going, because everything else isn't as important to me. What is your purpose? |

![]() The basis of our governments being the opinion of the people, the very first object should be to keep that right; and were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers, or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter. But I should mean that every man should receive those papers and be capable of reading them. ![]() |
