Government ran health care is inefficient and enables its citizens to become spoiled and irresponsible for their own health. I think some type of catastrophe insurance offered to poor people is okay (sort of like how some government-funded public transportation can be okay), but beyond that, the government shouldn't have anything to do with health care.
Also, Blonde, Olberman is a joke and European health care sucks big time. Repug is actually making some sense here: allowing the government to have their hand in health care is a recipe for corruption and inefficiencies. |

I really don't know all that much about it; ll of my friends who live in Europe have nothing but good things to say about it. Maybe FC or Dent can provide some more first hand experience, although I'm sure FC is covered by his company he might know more about it.

Private insurance runs at about 9-17% overhead. http://www.cahi.org/cahi_contents/re...nicalPaper.pdf Every bit of overhead is money you pay and get no benefit for. Personally I'd rather throw 3% down a hole than 9%. Maybe that's just me. | |

It's about balance, Repug. Certainly some government-ran social systems are better than none. Anarchy doesn't work. But neither does full-on communism. The key is to find the right balance of governmental power and responsibilities. Right now I believe the government is larger than what is optimal and, unfortunately, only getting larger.

The thing is, I actually agree with you. But where do you draw the line? And why one institution over another? Is it more important for all people to have access to fire departments than to health care? Perhaps.

The UK might have the worst health care of any developed country.
The system is pure shit. It's a major consideration for me living here, because you have to think: What if? What if I get a brain tumor? What if I need emergency care? You really don't want to be in the UK if these things happen. As a person with a job you are MUCH better in the United States, so I probably won't live here as I get old if things stay the way they are. |

I'm fine with fire and police being gov't run, but only if voters could elect the police/fire chief as an elected official every 2-4 years (like they do for sheriffs.)
I am very against gov't run education and this country has shown that the more gov't interference in our education system, the worst we get. Why on Earth does a college degree mean nothing anymore? Because anybody can get it, thus we've all fucked ourselves into going to school an extra 4 years just to be competitive for jobs against the same stupid fucks that shouldn't even have graduated 10th grade. |

As for Olbermann, he and his little spurts are cute. I wonder if he really enjoys this job over something like sportscenter. Notice how he doesn't touch Ron Paul in his 11 minute campaign. Ron Paul is one of (if not THE only) medical doctors in Congress and would destroy Olbermann in a debate over this issue. At least O'Rielly debates people (or more talks over them) but a one-sided rant gets no credit from me.

I just thought of this on the walk home, and maybe it deserves another thread, and the question itself might be dumb as hell, but in this day and age, how come we don't get to vote on wars...? By "wars" I mean "our occupation of other countries"

You can rip on Olbermann all you want, but what he said in that particular video was great. Powerful special interest lobbying (bribing) politicians compromises their integrity and this holds them accountable for the worms they are. The more he singles out these sleazy politicians the better.
