The way it's judged. After Roy Jones got clearly, and I mean clearly, robbed in the gold medal fight in Korea, they went to a system more or less like fencing, where the judges hit a button to register a punch, and a certain % of them have to register it in a certain period of time for it to count.

At the end of the fight the total # of punches landed determines the winner, which significantly changes the way the fight is fought compared to pro fights.

In a way it promotes solid fundamental techniques like distancing and clean jabbing, but it usually fails to reward body punches and makes no room in the scoring for things like power. Even knockdowns aren't awarded in any meaningful way, other than 3 in a round ends a fight.

I haven't watched Olympic boxing for awhile, but I have heard the same complaints that Beebs is bringing to the table. I hate soccer with a passion, but I think going to a soccer match at a world venue could change my perspective.

thekremlin 04-08-2011 09:26 AM

I didn't like watching soccer until I moved out here, if you actually get into it, it can be a lot of fun.

DJ FC 04-08-2011 09:57 AM

Sweeeeet.

Although I'm putting the "I'm in." to actually showing up ratio at somewhere around 10:1.

Cocktooth 04-08-2011 10:03 AM

Yeah, I'm not about to commit. There are alot of obsticles in my way.

Pretty sure I spelled in correct.

thekremlin 04-08-2011 10:30 AM

You're the deepest troll of them all.

Cocktooth 04-08-2011 10:32 AM

You have me confused with someone else, and it's pretty obvious.

Beebs 04-08-2011 11:55 AM

The soccer should be pretty entertaining if Brazil are able to get all their under 21s to show up.

Neymar, Ganso, and Lucas (not the one at Liverpool) for Brazil
Iturbe for Argentina would have been great to see but they didn't qualify.

Especially Neymar and Iturbe; both are going to be superstars.

AP can actually pull this off. However, will almost certainly not crash at DJFC's flat.

Beebs 04-08-2011 12:07 PM

Few people can pull 3rd person off, you do it well.

Crash or no crash AP better be sipping cold European lager beers with FC.

THEINCREDIBLEdork 04-08-2011 06:16 PM

I thought it was against the law to drink beer cold in Ingland.

thekremlin 04-08-2011 07:17 PM

When cold beer is outlawed, only outlaws will drink cold beer.

Orgazmo 04-08-2011 07:45 PM

When cold beer is pirated, only pirates and regular folk will drink cold beer.

Good Sir,

The English frequent ale shops and public houses where hand pumped cask ales may be served at room temperatures. It is a fine and noble institution.

There is a more pedestrian option, however. Commoners may prefer an artificially refrigerated, carbonated, and pressurized golden European style lager beer. A typical example being "Stella Artois," which the working class colourfully refers to as "The Wife Beater."

Good day.

angry pancake 04-09-2011 12:44 PM

I'll knock back some euro lagers. I really do like some good British ale as well. I used to drink the theakston old peculiar and the youngs SLA export all the time. can't find it any longer. There's plenty of nice brew in your part of the world.

thekremlin 04-09-2011 12:46 PM

Yes.

We import it from Europe, Ireland, and the US.

Cocktooth 04-09-2011 12:53 PM

Do they still have Miller Lite over there?

No, but you can find Coors Light.

Cocktooth 04-09-2011 02:56 PM

Ewwww Gross.

SinisterKid 04-10-2011 07:25 AM

I've been thinking; what's the anticipated terrorist threat level for the 2012 games?
