It's much easier to understand Taoism at first from a Western viewpoint.

I recommend "Tao - The Watercourse Way" by Alan Watts.

This is somebody trying to convince themselves they are brilliant and novel for not being a christian, when in comparison christianity makes significantly more sense than this hippy. There is a reason this guy isn't a considered a top theologen or philosopher, and that reason is because he isn't.
