Am I the only one who thinks Rick Perry's executive order mandating 12 year old girls to be inoculated against HPV is a good, if only slightly misguided, idea? How would this differ from any other vaccination we've been socialized to accept?

You know the answer to that, in that it's sexually transmitted, therefore bad. Obviously Republicans never have sex before marriage so why would they need it?

I don't think it's a bad idea, it would just need a lot more public education on the disease.

I don't like the idea of a vaccine being mandated if you're not traveling outside the country, but if it were optional and even encouraged I'd pay taxes for it.

The HPV virus is what caused my mom's cancer.

That makes sense, but aren't vaccines like the polio vaccine administered to us as youth? And polio has been eradicated, has it not?

I agree an opt in option for an HPV vaccine would be far more acceptable, but I think the eradication of HPV is a worthy cause, as I'm sure you do since it's affected your family.

John Huntsman's record is as liberal of half the democrats in congress (unsurprising to me that Repug loves him.) The guy is as bad as Romney on flip-flopping. When Pawlenty fell on his face, the media started pushing Huntsman, but the voters aren't buying it.

Probably. But it mostly pissed off people because Merck was one of his largest supporters. I really smacked of paying back the guys who backed him in campaigns. The legislature overturned it before it could be enacted. One of the handful of times Perry pissed off his own party here. The vaccine is/was expensive and Merck's claims to it not having side effects are probably going to be litigated much like vioxx.
