Default Liquor/Liqueur

Patron XO Cafe

I am by no means a coffee person, so this is somewhat of an odd choice for me. I first tried this because some Albanians bought it and we're offering some to me. It was room temperature and it was great. I was definitely drunk at the time, though. It's good on it's own so I decided I'd try it with coffee. It's going pretty well. I've poured 3 shots into the giant coffee I bought. I've got a bit of a buzz.

On a side note, I figured since most Nubblites seem like drinkers, a thread for Liquor/Liqueur reviews would be useful. I'm interested to see what kinds of things everyone likes to drink.

Good idea. Requesting BDH put the Honey wild turkey thing in here. Still haven't tried that yet. Being a huge tequila fan, tequila and coffee sounds absolutely horrendous. But i'll try it out.

Psychedelics are illegal not because a loving government is concerned that you may jump out of a third story window. Psychedelics are illegal because they dissolve opinion structures and culturally laid down models of behavior and information processing.

Lucid Absinthe

I bought this because I wanted to try "absinthe." I use quotation marks because I know that the US absinthe isn't really absinthe. This declaration is necessary because, if left unstated, someone (GWB at least) will point out that real[er] absinthe need be imported, mostly from Europe.

That said, I gave this stuff a try...and, in my opinion, it's not too fucking bad.

Though most everyone I've shared the drink with hate the taste, I'm a bit of a fan. It's sort of a mixture of black licorice and mint. "Jägermeister!?," you say? No, not really. Though it may be in the same vein with the licorice taste, I assure you that the overall is quite a bit different.

Onward. I've enjoyed the drink both in shot form and prepared traditionally. I prefer the shot. Though I could tolerate (and semi enjoy) the traditional preparation for a round or two, it wears on me quickly. That said, the shot packs a momentary punch that'll make you make one of those, "Fuck, that was a shot" faces while also leaving a minty (not quite peppermint schnapps minty) dragon breath in your cockles.

It's not bad.

...but does it fuck you up like Absinthe is supposed to?

No. Not really. But it relatively high proof (124), so it won't hesitate to fuck you quickly.

While I wouldn't necessarily recommend a bottle, if you find yourself in a situation to do so, I'd definitely urge you to give it a try. It's not bad.

Pimms

Pimms is the British Summertime drink. I am posting this in January, I know. But summer will be here soon enough, and I shall be drinking Pimms No. 1 and Lemonade:

Quote:
Traditional Pimms No.1
Take one slice of orange, lemon, apple, cucumber per person and one sprig of mint and add to two parts lemonade to one part Pimms.
Pimms No 1 Cup - Pimms drinks, cocktail recipes and history of Pimms

Quote:
History of Pimms
Rewind back to a London oyster bar in the 1840s where owner James Pimm invented the thirst-quencher. Using gin, quinine and a secret mixture of herbs, good old Pimm served up the brew as an aid to digestion, dishing it out in a small tankard and the No. 1 Cup moniker was born.

After the Second World War, Pimms extended their range, using a number of other spirits as bases for new cups. Scotch lent its name to No. 2 cup while No. 3 used brandy, No. 4 rum, No. 5 rye and No. 6 vodka. Of these sequels, the vodka cup and brandy (now called Winter) are the only ones in production while original No. 1 cup still reigns supreme in popularity.

The basis of our governments being the opinion of the people, the very first object should be to keep that right; and were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers, or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter. But I should mean that every man should receive those papers and be capable of reading them.

That was much better in shot form. I wouldn't mind trying the traditional way again sometime, but I think the shot is where it's at.
