I'm sure almost everybody knows who LeBron James is. If you don't, he's the pimp that has won Mr. Basketball in Ohio the last 2 years (soph. and junior year). He was on the front of an SI magazine last year and is the best high school player in the country. He is also supposed to be the #1 draft pick for the NBA next year, coming out of high school, if that says anything. If you want more info on him, search google.
Anyways, he received a Hummer for his 18th birthday this year. Since most people don't receive Hummers for their birthday, it brought up quite a discussion. Well him and his family claim it was a Christmas gift from his mom, but the situation is under investigation by the OHSAA. It is said in the OHSAA rules that an athlete forfeits his or her amateur status by...
quote:
capitalizing on athletic fame by receiving money or gifts of monetary value.

Although this doesn't really effect his life too much since he will be playing in the NBA next year, it sure would suck for St. Vincent-St. Mary's high school who would lose their best player. |

You heard correctly, vader.
The Ohio State High School Athletic Association disqualified LeBron James from competitive play for the remainder of the 2002-2003 season; due to the fact that he accepted retro-jerseys of Wes Unsel and Gale Sayers, in exchange, James posed for a few publicity shots for the store that gave him the goods.
