A pure democracy may in fact lead towards those mentioned results. I guess I wasn't talking about a pure democracy. What I meant was that all nations who have some form of democracy (a democratic republic?) like the US and Eurozone.

Maybe I'm wrong here, but it seems like all of those nations that have a hybrid democracy possess all of those characteristics I mentioned. They are all free (people and markets) and they are all peaceful with other democratic nations. What I meant by cooperation is cooperation between other democratic nations not within a single nation. Obviously there is little cooperation from a political standpoint within a democratic nation. Perhaps it is more or less capitalism that promotes the interests of peace between nations, but totalitarianism always leads to state control.

Look I work on electronics and I don't really know much about this kind of shit. Perhaps you could enlighten me with your thoughts on the subject?

Well the NATO airstrikes against Serbia could count, unless you don't coun't NATO because it isn't a country; it does contain members with McDonalds though. The US invasion of Panama. Isreal and Lebanon both have them, if you count that. Similarly India and Pakistan, if you count they fights over the border. Most recently Russia and Georgia over South Ossetia.

Democracy does not promote freedom. It promotes the oppression of the minority by the majority.

In a modern democracy, the leaders do not have to answer to the public. The voting base is too large to have any effect. All they have to do is politic.

Not really true; democracy is a neutral vehicle, it doesn't particularly promote any ideology over another.

In the broadest sense democracy is people choosing how they want to be governed; all of the things you listed can happen and indeed have happened, but the real blame has to be put on the leaders who were in power and the people who put them there, maybe at the specific form the democracy they happen under has taken.

The most base of democracy is self determination, not necessarily majority rule; the only time when majority rule is unavoidable is at the formation of a government, after that any number of protections, the constitution for example, can be put in place.

Democracy can take a huge number of different forms, not all of which lead to the unappealing populist bullshit you speak of.

In other great news, a GOP congressman from Fort Wayne resigned today for having an affair. This paves the way for his replacement, which will likely be the ever-growing popular Marlin Stutzman (who came in 2nd to a big namer in Indiana in the Senate race last week) to take over. Stutzman is an outstanding candidate with Libertarian ties and support of the Tea Party.

I'm not saying it's business as usual. I already stated my negative thoughts toward that man and how I feel he should be punished. My point is that only seeing part of the entire incident (much like that kid in Florida who got tased at the John Kerry speech) doesn't tell the whole story. Justified or not, he had his reasons and even talked about how bothered he was that police wasn't there monitoring the hostile scene. I'm pretty sure dems are trying everything they can to make tea party folks look like maniacs and that few thousand that are like this single individual will get all the attention, instead of the tens of millions who are peaceful, like myself.
