More effecient? That's funny. From an agricultural stand point it takes twice the amount of water to maintain animals then it does to grow veggies, rice, etc... Then you've got an over abundance of animal feces polluting aquifers, their farts (again in over abundance) contributing to global warming (don't down play it), and not to mention that little thing called mad cow diseases which is a lot more series then people realize. There's a huge difference between free range cattle on a local farmers land compared to a corporate "farm" where the animals are treated cruely, and pumped full of all sorts of nasty hormones.

If you don't care then you don't care just say so. But don't try to argue that these animals aren't horribly mistreated. We have laws protecting dogs and cats from animal cruelty where you can go to jail for it...But then we cram hundreds of chickens into a tight ass spot to the point where they go crazy and pluck eachothers eyes out and we have to breed them with no beaks? I mean give me a break, that's just fucked up. I'm not even going to get into the health reasons why having a meat free (mainly, but not exclusively red meat) is healther. Saturated fat anyone? If you don't care that's fine, just admit your selfish and would rather have animals treated horribly as long as you aren't without the luxury of having a tasty burger because you like the way it tastes.

Yes, there is mistreatment, and yes it should be fixed, but don't lump the two issues together. Family farms are dieing out because they aren't economically viable anymore. People around here are selling former farmland like crazy, and usally make out better for themselves. Do you really think Orlando and the I-4 corridor wanna go back to picking fucking oranges? Maybe Houston wishes they never would have moved from cattle to Oil.

Yes, but the significant difference in my examples and yours is that I will never suggest a scenerio where one person infringes upon another persons property rights. Property rights can be stretched to mean the right to live, the right to privacy upon one's property, and the right to do as one wishes upon one's property.

I do not support polution in any way whatsover, but I do believe that the more we increase regulation on what someone can and can't do with their property (especially when their actions don't infringe the rights to property of others), the more we take away the very incentives to benefit society.

But then again, we aren't discussing politics are we? Indeed, there is value in things such as "free range pork," so I'm all for it.

But I will continue to eat meat and love it.
