COME ON YOU YANKS

The cone was only used for a few hours, right after he got home + when we had to leave him alone for a bit last night. All in all, he's doing very well at not licking his wound. While it was on, the cone was pretty hilarious, though. He was still fucked up and could hardly stay awake at the time anyway. As soon as I put it on, he went into the position in the picture (head held low) and froze for a full minute. After that, he slowly walked backward trying to back out of the cone. When that didn't work, he accepted his fate, but would get hooked on various items while trying to find a spot to lay down. I felt bad for the guy, but not as bad I'd have felt had he licked his woundglue off.
This happened yesterday, and he's still a little groggy today, sleeping most of the day, waking up only to find a new spot to sleep. When he walks, he does it very gingerly. He does pep up when outside, though, and wants nothing more than to play ball. Not yet, buddy. In fact, that was the first thing he did when he got home. We put him outside to piss and he slowly walked to his tennis ball and haphazardly tried picking it up and coaxing us to throw it. Of course, he was having trouble even keeping his eyes open and his head held up at this point, so he wasn't too convincing. |

Welp, his ballsack exploded.
For the 7 days after his surgery, his ballsack slowly became engorged as it swelled with blood. It also started to take on a reddish purple bruising. Googling + calls to the vet confirmed that this was all very normal, despite how abnormal it looked to us. Also, the dog was acting fine. Until yesterday. When he woke, he didn't want to leave his cage in the morning. Inspection found some sticky yellow shit all over his empty nutsack, causing his surrounding fur to become matted and stuck. Later inspection even found a small hole in his sack, not where the sutures were, but instead in an area that was seemingly untouched by a scalpel. As the day went on, the dog started acting more normal, but the wound remained. His sack had shrunken quite a bit, though. After a visit to the vet today, it was found out that, in rare instances (roughly 1/30 neuters), the sack will swell with so much blood that it will actually burst in a weak area. This is what happened here. The created hole had relieved a bit of blood/pus mixture from the poor guy's airsack. While that is technically a good thing, the result was his new interest in licking the area He's now on a steady dose of antibiotics with semi-frequent antibiotic powderings to clean/dry up the area. He's also in a cone 24/7 until he heals, which will be 3-4 days. Gross Pic |

Why did you do that to him?

![]() The basis of our governments being the opinion of the people, the very first object should be to keep that right; and were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers, or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter. But I should mean that every man should receive those papers and be capable of reading them. ![]() |

Gentlemen, I'm happy to report that the dog's sack appears to have made a full recovery!
His little flesh pouch resembles a large, white raisin. The wound of the explosion is still visible, but only as a superficial dark spot. Also, there is still a small, hard mass inside, but the doc said this is just a blood clot that will eventually be re-absorbed by his body. He's officially off cone duty and able to play ball and frisbee like a boss. I thank you all for your well wishes, thoughts, and prayers through this difficult time. They've lifted our entire family up enough to endure the trials in stride. And, as with all difficult experiences, I think we're all a little stronger coming out on the other side. |

John chased the cat into the toilet the other day. Literally into the toilet. The seat was up, and the cat didn't know that was ever an option. He jumped up on it, floundered, and ran away. He spent the next 30 minutes licking his soaked leg, the leg that he used to propel himself away from the water.
It was the most I've laughed in a very long time. |
