Sleeping pills like barbituates or benzos mixed with some other downer would be a painless way to die.

Most OTC sleeping pills on the other hand have either the same ingredient or one that acts in the same way as anti-histamines or motion sickness pills, it would be like taking enough dramamine or benodryl to kill yourself.

With prescription pills you would at least feel some relaxation or euphoria for those 15 or so minutes before the full dose hits you, with over the counter you would be in hell for those minutes.

So yea, sleeping pills or other downers would be the way to go, if theyre prescription.
