Default The McRib and the Sound and the Fury

Rather than make two threads I figure I'll do both of my reviews in the same one.

The McRib: What happened to this sandwich? Have I just gotten older and been subjected to too many health/"it's mostly hooves and beaks" campaigns? I have fond memories of its BBQy, porky goodness satisfying my most animalistic cravings, and was recently let down. It wasn't terrible tasting, but considering I haven't had one for like five years, you'd think it would be spectacular. Too many god damned onions and the bread could have been fresher. It was a sad fucking day yesterday. On a side note, you should probably eat one of those philly cheese steak burgers from Carl's Jr. (or Hardees depending on your geographic location). They're incredible.

The Sound and the Fury by Faulkner: It's confusing as shit for the first half of the book and then gradually starts to make sense. It ends up being good once you're finished, but is probably too frustrating for most people to get through without hearing a disclaimer like this first. If you can manage the first two parts by using sparknotes or something to keep track of the randomness chronologically, the rest falls into place and even sheds some light on the beginning. It's basically like a reverse McRib. Kinda blah at first but is good later on.

Creeping around as I please nonchalantly like any other Supreme Emperor might.

McRib: I hadn't had one in ages, and was never really fond of them. I happened to have a left-over one when i was drunk in Vegas, it was still as lackluster as ever for me. However, if they have it in your region, the new Jalapeno Cheddar Spicy McChicken is delicious.

The Sound and the Fury: I read this book, i believe, my senior year of HS. Your review is pretty spot-on. I remember being confused as hell in the beginning, but enjoying once you got the other perspectives. Oddly enough, I don't remember any details about the book other than the name Caddy, the one guy being a retard, and liking it. I'll have to re-read it some time.

McRib: Always been meh.

The Sound and the Fury by Faulkner: Decent book, not Faulkner's best in my opinion, but it's not bad by any means. I've always compared Faulkner to Hemingway in my mind, Faulkner being the better of the two. That being said, As I Lay Dying is a good read.

The McRib has evolved from an amazing sandwich, to typical McDonalds fast food bull shit. The first time it came out, it was bigger with more zesty BBQ sauce. Now, it's more bread and onions then anything. I haven't had the newest one, but it didn't look to appealing when the guy next to me at work was eating it. I'll stick with Wendy's chicken sandwich!

Wendy's doesn't really do anything for me. I'll eat it, but I don't get excited about it.

Quote:
I've always compared Faulkner to Hemingway
I haven't read enough of either to form any kind of expert opinion, but if Hemingway's writing is generally consistent with "Farewell to Arms" and Faulkner's is with "The Sound and the Fury," I couldn't disagree more. That's pretty limited exposure I know, but I don't see the similarities at all at this point. I'm reading, "Tender is the Night" right now but as soon as I'm done, I'm starting Hemingway's, "A Moveable Feast," so I'll should be able to provide a better comparison when I'm done.

I'd like to see a brief "Arch Deluxe" comeback too. I think it was marketed as the "adult sandwich" which may be why I liked it as a kid though. I can't even remember what was on it.

Edit: Nothing special is on it other than circular bacon. It's pretty much failed in almost every single market it's been in worldwide, except France. What does that tell you?

Edit #2: I'm really glad that arguing the intricacies of one the U.S.'s most celebrated author's classic works, right alongside McRib discussion has caught on. This is totally what I was going for.

I almost posted this earlier, and now regret that I didn't, but mostly the reason I wanted to pair McRibs and Faulkner together is to bother you.

+1!

I'll start:

I've taken an affinity to farmer's market eggs. Fresh, organic, free-range eggs taste so much better than the mass-produced crap that takes a month to go from chicken's ass to your plate. A delicious breakfast sandwich I regularly make is an English muffin with a slice of habanero cheddar (spicy as fuck and delicious) with two fried eggs. Every time I eat it, a little drop of cum falls out of the tip of my cock.

Jalapeño jack is also a nice substitute for cheddar.

When I was in elementary school, our cafeteria published the menu at the beginning of every month. There were some meals, like American Chop Suey, that only came up once a month, and some, like Chicken Nuggets, that were available at least once a week. McRibs were the white whale. The only menu item named after a restaurants menu item. And I never bought lunch, I always brown-bagged it, but I remember pleading with my parents when McRibs were on the menu. The sauce was among the better BBQ sauces I've tasted, even to this day.

I miss the McRib.

I just asked our trader assistant, who is English, if he had ever had one. He had never even heard of the McRib! It's America in a wrapper.

A note on a delicious breakfast sandwich (breakfast sandwiches are fucking amazing, how did it take this long for us to get a breakfast sandwich thread?):

Every Saturday morning there's a farmer's market that sets up shop about 100 yards down the road from where I live. I usually make it down there every week provided I'm not too hungover (they close at noon). One of the vendors are these young dudes (prly barely out of college) who make breakfast sandwiches. One of their sandwiches is called the Egg Man. I just polished one of these bad boys off and I had to check my boxers to verify that I did indeed have a few drops of cum leak out of the tip while I was eating it.

Two fresh, farmer's market eggs fried
Poblano chicken sausage (amazing)
Cheddar cheese
On a challah roll (delicious egg-based bread)

It is fucking amazing. The dude who cooks it is a master with the eggs. What makes the sandwich so good is that when you bite into it, all of the yolk starts oozing out of the egg. So you've got the yolk kicking lots of ass with the cheddar and BAM a nice little spice from the chicken sausage all neatly packed in between two layers of soft, yummy challah bread. Fuck I'm hard just thinking about it. Might have to walk back down there for another one.

They have them as permanent menu items in Germany. I knew something good would come out of our interference in '41.

Here's my default breakfast sandwich:

You get two eggs frying (be sure to add salt and pepper while it's still liquid). While that's going, toast an English muffin and be waiting with a slice of cheese for when it comes out (I used Pepper Jack today) because you want that bitch to melt as much as possible. Let the egg fry until the bottom has hardened enough that you can get a spatula under it. Flip it and let the other side fry, fold it in half twice, and add it to the muffin. Simple. Fast. Easy. Delicious.

I know I'm a little behind this thread, but I had nothing really to add until now. In regards to the McRibb, when growing up I was never a big fan of it, but my brother loved it. As I sit here eating a delicious stack of bun-burger-bun-burger-bun, I can only think that some things never get old. The mother fucking Big-Mac never gets old. Why has no other fast food burger joint imitated this? Does McDonald's have a patent on the bun-burger-bun stack design?
