I think most people on Nubblies know my position on the subject. That said, reading through Blonde's intellectually-stimulating Facebook brawl makes me lose faith in our generation.
Anytime a catastrophe of any nature occurs, money will be spent. It doesn't matter whether it's a small gang-related shoot-out, a big fucking hurricane, or your friend getting cancer. The fundamental issue is where the money comes from to rectify the problem. I believe that most people would be more than willing to sell their neighbor's house to treat their child's cancer. We can talk about the common good all we want. Unfortunately, broad sweeping generalizations are not a very compelling way to make a point (despite how many I have already used in this post). I'm sure Vilfredo Pareto would love to take part in this discussion as well. We can also debate the success, or lack thereof, European countries have had with socialized health care. |

I'm sure he agrees with their protesting of the Democrats fiscal policies, but doesn't share their conservative social values. It has always been ironic to me how Republicans say they are pro freedom, yet in more scenarios than not they want to restrict the right of the individual.
It's amazing how nobody ever comments on how Christianity justifies all of these people's bigotry. |

I've never been nationalistic. More often than not I'm more critical of my country than most. However, since living in Taiwan I've been more proud to be American than I've ever been, and I'm not sure why. It might be living abroad in a country that actually likes America, or I might just be homesick. Or it might be that I've come to notice distinctively American things about myself that were obscured when I was living with other Americans. That said, I really do cringe when I see videos like the one you posted above. It's nice living somewhere that doesn't have Jesus pouring out of every orifice. Just the other day an Australian co-worker of mine was giving me shit because on the front page of the China Post a protester was holding up a sign that read, "Glenn Beck for president" and I really couldn't say much other than yeah, I know...I know.
