During the first inning of last nights game Slammin Sammy Sosa came up to bat. He swung at a pitch making contact and in the process his bat shattered into two pieces. They were picked up by the umpire, and it was discovered that the bat was infact corked. Corking your bat is illegal in baseball, and as a result Sosa was ejected from the game. He claims that it was his batting practice bat, and it was an honest mistake. Meanwhile all his other bats were consficated to be examined by MLB officials. Pending the results of the examination his records/career could very well be in jeopardy, assuming it is found he is a slimy little cheat.
Regardless it is just another reason for me to continue to NOT watch MLB. Steroids and now corked baseball bats, are truly why baseball is referred to as "Americas Pastime." Anywho post your thoughts, is Sosa a bat corking jew, or was it just an "honest mistake." If you feel he did intentionally do this, what do you think they'll do to his records? |

Ho-ly shit. I find this to be hilarious. Sammy is the golden boy for so many people...and it now turns out that he's a cheating bastard. Good, good stuff.
There is NO WAY that this was just a mistake. I don't follow baseball too closely...but I do know that bats don't break a helluva lot. For his bat to break the one time that he accidentally brings out the corked bat that he was practicing with...it just doesn't seem too plausible. I guess time will tell... |

He probably corked it. And he is also probably on steriods (much like 75% or so of all of the other Major Leaguers).
I lost my respect for Sosa last year during the whole interview with that Sports Illustrated guy (his name is beside me at the moment.....it's the guy who's interview is always on the back page of SI). Eitherwho, I'm a die-hard Cubs fan, so I always root for Sosa, but I don't really respect the asshole too much. Suspended, not suspended. Fined, not fined. Baned from baseball, not baned from baseball; the Cubs Will Win The World Series in 2003. He's just one player on a team of 25. -Ugly Bastard |

I did.
Which is exactly why I'm not too upset over this Sosa thing. Their win percentage without him was higher than it has been with him. Sure, I'd probably rather have him playing than not playing; but it's certainly not the end of the world if he gets suspended for a few weeks (as he well should). -Ugly Bastard |

I used to be a huge baseball fan, however I no longer am. I do still like the game though. I don't know if I think it was an accident or not, but I sure hope it was. I'd hate to lose all my respect for Sosa, I thought he was a pretty good guy. He seemed pretty sincere about everything so I'd have to believe him. The guys on Baseball Tonight raised a good point too. They said if it wasn't an accident he would have held on to the broken part and tried to pick up the other end as soon as he could. If he knew he had a corked bat he would have tried to hide it in some way. I think they are right. Anyways we'll have to wait and see what comes of it all.

Baseball is prolly the worst sport of all time, but I have played it and watched it(Just thought I needed to clarify that it sucks).
But last night as I was flipping through every channel from espn to cnn, I kept seein' Sosa. So I was like what the hell and flipped to Sport Center. After hearing his conference after, I would have to say that Sammy has prolly used a corked bat several times if not on a regular basis. It wouldn't make much since to have a corked bat for batting practice. I mean when you practice you practice to hit the ball further and how it would be in an actual game situation. Which brings up the last question, Why the hell would you want a corked bat for practice if you can't use it in a game because you know it is illegal? Therefore Sammy isn't making much sense and prolly lying. |

Probably because it is. Followed by Basketball. Holy shit I'm tired I just stole 2nd base. Damn it must be like 400 yards from 1rst. Oh wait it's like two fucking feet away.

Firstly, he claimed that his purpose in batting practice wasn't so much to practice as it was to put a show on for the fans...thus the corking of the bat. He was simply aiming to please. I still think it's bullshit...but much more plausible when you add that little tidbit in.
Secondly, even if he did have it for just batting practice, and even if he did happen to just grab the bat by chance, how many other times has he grabbed a corked bat by chance and then gone on to smack it out of the park? How many of his 500 however many homeruns have been nailed by an accidentally-corked bat? It's tough to tell... Thirdly, we're never going to agree what sports are shit and what sports aren't shit. Personally, I think baseball is shitty and Nubblies (the game, which will soon be classified as a sport, that UB and I developed) is golden. That's all for now. |

Sosa, x-rays on his bats came in....
They were negative, no other corks? Oh, the bases are 90 feet apart, it takes skill to steal on the catchers with good arms. In addition only the pussies are tired after stealing second. However I agree, Basketball is the worst sport. |
