Cover Songs
This is a list I've been working on for some time, and whenever I tell people about it they are able to add to it. Best cover songs.
1) Hurt, Johnny Cash (NIN) 2) With a Little Help From my Friends, Joe Cocker (Beatles) 3) Respect, Aretha (Otis Redding) 4) Turn the Page, Metallica (Bob Seger) 5) Landslide, Smashing Pumpkins (Fleetwood Mac) 6) Gin and Juice, The Gourds (Snoop) 6b) Boys in the Hood, Dynamite Hack (Easy E) 7) Knockin on Heaven's Door, GnR (Bob Dylan) 8) Mack the Knife, Louie Armstrong (Bobby Darin, I think) 9) Across the Universe, Fiona Apple (Shut up) (The Beatles) 10) Dirty Water, Dropkick Murphies (The Standells) Honorable Mention: Blinded by the Light, Manfred Mann's Earth Band (Bruce Springsteen) (Notable because it sounds like he says "Revved up like a douche") I'm sure I missed some good ones and there are a lot more Beatles covers, Dylan Covers, and Johnny Cash covered everyone, and really well. |

The basis of our governments being the opinion of the people, the very first object should be to keep that right; and were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers, or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter. But I should mean that every man should receive those papers and be capable of reading them. |

Nice ones.
To follow up, Iron and Wine does a good cover of Postal Service's "From Great Heights" Also there is an Otis Redding "Satisfaction" but I'm unclear on what came first. And Graceland is an amazing and underrated album. |

Psychedelics are illegal not because a loving government is concerned that you may jump out of a third story window. Psychedelics are illegal because they dissolve opinion structures and culturally laid down models of behavior and information processing.

They used this song in the trailer for The Social Network. As a huge Radiohead fan, this song is usually not one of my favorites. But this version is amazing, and the video adds a perfect creepiness, in my opinion.
