Regardless of how hard the licence is to get it's one of the few things which licensing isn't at least partly bullshit. If you can't pass the test you shouldn't be riding a bike. Don't go half way on this thing. Even if you've passed the test you still need practice. Basically riding a motorcycle isn't a joke and should be taken seriously.

![]() Hobbies:
Recently gotten into zen, which is mostly the practice of zazen (seated meditation). It's very difficult but I obviously think it's worthwhile, and the priests are really encouraging. I have my first yoga class tomorrow after work which I'm pretty excited about. Between the two I'm trying to develop more mind and body discipline. I'm still writing articles for a few Oregon based magazines which keeps my writing skills sharp and also provides a few extra bucks. I'm not working on any fiction right now but I'm sure I'll start back up again when I'm ready. I'm still running, usually every other night. I don't think it's going to be a long term thing though...I just don't enjoy it that much. I'll probably keep bouncing back and forth between running and weight lifting; when one gets boring switch to the other. I've also been getting more into camping. Recently bought a tent, some chairs and other miscellaneous items. They'll be put to good use this summer when I go up to Olympic national park. Things I'd like to get into: Volunteer work Video games (just started playing Xeno Chronicles) Drawing and or animation (any suggestions? I suck) Astronomy |

![]() I would recommend coaching or mentoring to everybody. You get to help shape kids outlook on life, they can be pretty damn funny at times, and you focus on your own life when you are trying to teach to somebody.
Being a goalkeeper specific coach this year was really rewarding, more so than being a head coach. I worked with the keepers on the team I was an assistant for, which was actually 2 teams, u12 and u13. There were 2 U13 keepers: 1 who was more experience and technically polished but out of shape and too passive, the other was a superior athlete and more assertive. The biggest impact I think I had was with the kid who was supposed to be the U12 keeper, but was hurt the whole season expect the last game or two. He showed up at every practice and game, and would be my helper as I worked with the others. Because he was always around he picked up my methods and ideas, and by the end I would feel comfortable letting him handle stuff like warming up whoever was going to be the backup while I got the starter ready. I also worked with a few times with keepers from other teams in the club, mostly group sessions with kids who hadn't played the position before, going over the basics. A few times I would work with 1 or 2 kids who were wanting to really commit to the position. It's incredibly rewarding have a bunch of goalkeepers that I've coached, and even one who is sort of his a Junior coach. You can see your influence on them, and they get better so quickly being pretty young. It's fun to see all the other players I've coached too, but the goalkeepers have a special place for me because they're directly implementing your coaching. |

![]() I've been riding motorcycles for a long time. I've never bothered to get a motorcycle license. Ever.
I don't get the fascination that some people have with motorcycles. I got the first one as a cheap transport method and I could always seem to get a parking space. Nothing more, nothing less. It was better than nothing, but not as good as a car. Nowadays every now and then, if I have nothing going on, and the weather is nice, I'll go somewhere on it. It has also bailed my ass a few times when none of the cars are available --that takes an unusual series of events typically involving one in the shop, Mrs. AP taking the other, and not being able to find the keys, etc. I'm not inclined to go very far on it though. I hate getting on the freeway on one of these. There are just too people around here just not paying attention. |

![]() I still haven't picked up a new fucking hobby.
I don't even know where to start. I really like climbing and shit, so I was thinking about starting rock climbing. There is a pretty solid indoor climbing facility about 20 or so minutes from me. The only thing that concerns me is that it'll fuck up my work outs. I know that climbing will make me stronger, but I have very specific goals. |

![]() It shouldn't fuck up your workouts. Just do it, along w your workouts.
I went to an indoor climbing spot for the first time about 6 months ago. It was fun, and made you realize how strong the advanced people were that were hanging on tiny holds and at obscene climbing angles. |

![]() That's good to know.
Another thing holding me back is the price. I've heard these indoor climbing facilities are expensive to use. Obviously a hobby is something I'd like to do at least once a week. |

![]() Cartography, or mapmaking, has been an integral part of the human history for a long time, possibly up to 8,000 years. From cave paintings to ancient maps of Babylon, Greece, and Asia, through the Age of Exploration, and on into the 21st century, people have created and used maps as the essential tools to help them define, explain, and navigate their way through the world. Mapping represented a significant step forward in the intellectual development of human beings and it serves as a record of the advancement of knowledge of the human race.
