As a sort of expansion on this thread, I propose the following question.
Would you rather be able to read people's minds or fly? More Info: If you choose to read people's minds, you can't ever let anyone know that you can read their mind. In fact, no one would ever even consider that you could read their mind. If you said "you're thinking of the word "cocksexmonster," and, of course, they really were, they would dismiss it as pure coincidence. Basically...the power would be used for only personal information, and not for impressing other. If you chose to fly, the maximum speed would be about 100 Mph and the maximum height would be near 1000 feet. The amount of energy used whilst flying would be comparable to walking/jogging/running. If you flew at about 15 mph, you wouldn't need much energy at all...but going 100 mph would be like sprinting as fast as you could. This means that, depending upon your endurance level, you could potentially be able to sustain a 70 - 80 mph speed for a reasonable amount of time (that would be the equivalent of a stiff jogging). Personally, I would rather be able to read people's minds. Although only I would gain the info, it would be pretty damn sweet to be able to know exactly what people think about. You could potentially find out any bit of data that you wanted... Basically, I see these two powers as either being used for self improvement, or impressing others...and I'd rather improve myself. Sure, flying would be nice and all, but it's not really as useful as the mind reading...mostly because humans are already capable of traveling at speeds very comparable to the flying maximums in a car. Sure, you have to stay on roads and stuff...but being able to read minds would be a completely new ability. Yeah, I'd rather be able to read minds. |

i'm not the most active cat... flying 70 mph for more than 5 minutes would probably kill me... i'm not a big fan of heights, and i'm no thrill seeker... not in and 'adrenaline fiend' or 'speed freak' kind of way... i'm more of a 'buzz junkie'
i would really like to be able to read people's minds... it would be really cool to know what they're thinking, cuz alot of times you really do want to know... the downside to that however, is that by age 24 i would go mentally ill from all the things people think about... i mean, i'm a pretty scary mind myself... but i already hate the human race, and wanting to find out what people are thinking and discovering all the psychotic shit everyone else thinks all the time, i would go insane very quickly. i know i will go insane some day, from being a genius, (the only difference between a genius and a madman is control) and if i could read people's minds, that would act as the worst catalyst i could think of... but since i'm already going to go insane, let's do it! Yeah, I would also choose reading people's minds. Don't get me wrong, flying would be the shit. But running out of breath and all that shit sorta sucks.
Plus, reading a mind would really come in handy on dates I would imagine. -Ugly Bastard |

reading minds by far, i would get very rich very quick. I would stand by atm machines and listen to people read off numbers in their minds. It could also be applied to bank account numbers, or credit card numbers.
Reading minds would also lead to mastery of women. You could probably take home any woman, you met if you could know what they where thinking. There are so many endless advantages that mind reading could get you, it is by far the better of the 2. |

Alright, Orgazmo, I think that there is a need for some stipulation here.
The fact is, comparing the two is a bit unfair. The thing is, it's the debate of non-work vs. work. While flying would be awesome (in fact, if I had one wish, it would be to fly), there's not a person in the world who would choose to fly when it meant that it was comparable to running or jogging. Especially since it's being put up against reading people's minds. So, I propose this. Keep the stipulations for the flying part. Those are good and realistic. However, your mind-reading stipulations need some work. The fact is, the one boundary you have isn't really all that bad. Why would I want to tell anyone that I could read minds? That means no one would know, no one would care, and no one would be safe....see what I mean? It's an advantage. So here's what I propose. Mind-reading disadvantages: You can't turn it off. Instead of just focusing on one person and tuning into their thought frequency, you are the reciever, and EVERYONE is the transmitter. This means that in a crowded lunchroom, not only are you hearing voices, but also thoughts. Their thoughts would sound like their original voices, but it would be like everyone around you speaking to you at once. In order to fully utilize your power, you have to train and learn to discern how to shut out uninteresting stuff, and focus on the interesting stuff. There's also the fact that while people can shut off their vocal chords, they cannot shut off their minds, unless they are asleep, and then, dreams could be discernible as well. This is how it goes. You want the power, you get the consequences. I think that I would pick flying. There's nothing in the world that I would love more to do than watch a morning sunrise from above the clouds, never have to use a car again, get places in a timely fashion and such. However, there would be the freezing temperatures in the upper atmosphere, the risk of being spotted and reported, and so on and so forth. There are many setbacks, but flying would be awesome. And a way to impress the ladies. |
