![]() The basis of our governments being the opinion of the people, the very first object should be to keep that right; and were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers, or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter. But I should mean that every man should receive those papers and be capable of reading them. ![]() |

The cat was found on Sunday morning curled up in the bottom of the corner of a closet and unwilling to move. Not even for food. He'd hiss whenever we neared. After finally being coaxed out, he was very slow moving, had half-open eyes, and was drooling.
Because it was Sunday, only an emergency vet was open. We took him in and the diagnosis was that he has a completely blocked urethra. The fix included flushing the blockage out, inserting a catheter so he could piss (this is why he was fucked up...he had a lot of piss inside of him), and keeping him overnight. Being an emergency vet, they charged up the asshole for this ($1400 in total). They wanted to keep him even longer, but we declined and instead took him to a regular vet for the next day to keep an eye on him + remote the catheter. This vet is a friend of Tits' mother and, as such, seemed to only charge for materials, just over $100 for a couple of days. All in all, the price at the emergency place were certainly ridiculous, but they sort of have you by the balls when you walk in. In the end, he's middle-aged and this issue isn't one that should recur (so long as he's on a new diet, which doesn't cost much if any more than his old diet), thus the justification for spending $1500. That, and the price was incremental. It was $100 to walk in the place, then another $500 for them to figure out what's wrong, then another $500 to fix, and then $2-300 of random shit. Again, by the balls. |

That's pretty outrageous for a standard procedure, especially since it didn't require surgury. Thankyou for taking the time to answer I was genuinely curious. Hope he doesn't get sick again even though he's kind of an asshole.
Ub, I have always liked cats and some of my finest childhood mammories are searching for newly born kittens in my grandpas barn each season and playing with them. However, saying im "obsessed" with cats is a pretty far stretch. Sure I perpetuate that persona on this board, brought it here bc of an inside joke between friends that I can't really remember and probably wasn't that funny in the first place. Its still fun for me though so whether its actually funny or not so im probably will never stop. Fyi I will be getting a new kitty soon and my sister will help me pick this one when she visits me. Leash. And motorcycle riding tolerance will be a large factor in selection. |

Second vet also confirms that we absolutely did the right thing by taking him to the emergency vet as this is the kind of thing that is easily treated if caught right away, but will kill within 72 hours...so not really something to fuck with. It's really just more evidence that the cat really is an asshole. He plugged his urethra on a Sunday. | |

I feed my cat Purina premium urinary tract health formula. Shit isn't exactly cheap.
What type of cat litter do you use? I've heard stories of the litters with "crystals" getting stuck in cat assholes and penis holes causing problems and even death. Probably not related to your cat's problems, but just an fyi. |

Tbh after hearing this story I honestly am never tking an animal to the emergency vet. I plan on very early retirement and something like this would postpone it a week or two and it adds up.
As for mya previous experience looking back i have no regrets. Kitty chose a bad time to get sick, I was going to takehim to the vet first thing Monday morning. I spoiled that cat and in return it always had something wrong with it like constantly sneezing and barfing since day one. I had already taken him to the vet several times for his bullshi. I was fortunate that i caved too late and only had to pay a hundred dollar burning body fee. |
