Silva is the man, alright? Fuck you. He's the shit. But still, after losing to Arona does his belt really mean as much? I know it was in a tourney format, but that was the first fight, they were both fresh...It seems to take away a little of the legitness. Also consider Wanderlei has only had 3 title defenses in 4 years against Tamura, Kanehara, and Jackson. Of course only 1 of them was a top fighter. His record in his last 4 fights is 2-2. Obviously Silva is still a fucking bad ass, but does anyone think he's losing that invincible aura he had going for the past 5 years?

holy shit.
what a fairweather fan... maybe you should stick to sherdog & mma.tv prior to arona when was the last fucking time silva lost a fight?! while rua has moments where he shines, he doesn't have the consistency of silva. i suppose randy coture isn't as good as liddel because he lost to him once... |

a fight is a fight, anyone can win any match that gets put together. the better fighter doesnt always win. sometimes people get lucky or, as in wand's case, you just cant find your rhythm and work your gameplan. i think wand is still the best pound for pound.

Not a fairweather fan, just pointing out Silva has been less then stellar lately. And you have to admit...3 title defenses in 4 years? Silvas main knock is that he doesn't always fight quality opponets. I still think Siva is ranked either 1 or 2 LHW right now.

This is not Silvas fault, but I feel pride babies him a little. A lot of his wins are vs japanese "pro wrestlers". And I know Silva has grown as a fighter, but fact remains out of the four legit top 10 LHM's he's fought he's 1-3 with losses to belfort, tito and arona and a win from jackson. His first win against Jackson I don't really consider a full win. Tourney's are to difficult..Silva wasn't nearly as beaten up coming into the finals as Jackson was. Not to say he still wouldn't have won, but their rematch shows Jackson was a much tougher challenge then originally. And Yoshida? Sorry but no.

The difference is his loss in the tourney was his first fight of the night, both fighters were completely fresh. His win over Jackson in the tourney was the final. Silvas grappling match with Yoshida paled in comparison to the war Liddel and Jackson went through. The win still counts, sure, but you see my point.
All I'm really getting at here is I don't think Silva is the clear cut #1 LHW in the world anymore. And that's not to say he isnt the best LHW ever, but we're not talking about ever we're talking about current. Shogun in his last four fights beat Nog, Overeem, Jackon and Arona. That's insane. Chuck last four fights have been wins over tito, randy, horn and vernon. Silvas last four fights have been wins over Yoshida and Nakamura with losses to Hunt and Arona. Just something to think about. |

Yeah, It's really between five guys: Liddel, Silva, Shogun, Arona and Couture. A few things need to happen...
Couture vs Liddel 3 Silva vs Arona 2 Shogun vs winner I think we'll have a better idea then. |
