Hell fuck yeah.
Mr. Wray kicks ass. He's one of the smartest teachers I've had. That article was absolute shit though. Why can no one write a decent news article?

That's really damn cool. Can you imagine if Dan Wray went into space? Wow...I'd donate a nut to trade places with the guy for the week he's gone.

She does a good job of showing what symbolism is, but if you ask me, symbolism is in the eye of the reader. Yet, if you're in the class and don't understand things exactly how she does, then you are wrong. I don't think that's a fair assessment as to weither or not I understand symbolism.

Shit man, I don't even remember doing symbolism with Wray, it's a part of most English classes.

You're kidding me, right? Symbolism is the only thing Mrs. Wray talks about, man. She can find symbolism in a comercial for tube socks. I really didn't do well in that class, and it's because every grade is focus around symbolism. I completely understand symbolism, but I have a tendancy to see things from a more pessimistic perspective than she does. And thus, I had more than a few discussions with her on how I was "wrong" in what I found, and she was "right". the_butcher is going through a similar thing right now. Ask him about it.

Does Mrs.Wray encourage students? She obviously encouraged Titan in some way; that right there is enough to validate Titan's original comment, so get off his back.

So what you're saying is that she encouraged thought? Interesting. I think you're totally right, that's a lot more important than your grade, good thinking.

Ahh, yes tonguegina, I was just going to mention that. A quick word about symbolism...IT DOESN'T EXIST IN EVERY FUCKING THING. There we go, I feel better.

I actually have a story to describe just how stupid/worthless Mrs. Wray's "symbolism" is. The other day I took a test on American Literature. The last question was an essay about how reading early American literature helps us gain a broader understanding of literature now, or something along those lines. I raised my hand when I reached the question, and Mrs. Wray proceeded to ask what I needed. I asked: "What if I don't believe that it gave us a broader understanding?" After some time of looking at me weird, she replied, "just pretend that it does for you then."

I got an A+ on that essay. Does that say something about the class? I completely, and I mean completely bullshitted the entire thing, and yet I got an A. That just goes to show how much of a shithole that English classes are.

But if you think about it, this post was symbolizing negative feelings toward English which have arisen from my mom beating me. Make sense? Of course it does.

Every teacher should encourage thought, dumb ass. That's not what I'm arguing. I'm complaining that if your thought process is not the same as hers, then in her mind you are wrong. That is not the way it should be done, and that is the reason I didn't like her as a teacher.

That's fine, that was your experience with her, good job. Myself, I breezed through all the formalities of high school education (doing what you know the teacher wants so you can get your good grade) and was able to have healthy, meaty, fun, intellectual discussions with her, and be very involved in class and apply my own thoughts with the aforementioned rigorations of the class. I didn't have the same experience with not being able to get my opinions across, I had quite the opposite experience, sorry, dumbass.

Yeah, sorry, Tonguegina, some of the time in school I sell out and agree with the teacher because they like that more. I may be a hypocrite, but at least I'll be a hypocrite with an A+. I remember a certain government teacher telling us that he used to write college papers as a Democrat so his teacher would like them more. It's all about telling people what they want to hear.

I'd do good in it, but that's just because I'm sarcastic as fuck, and they thought I was sincere. So in a way, we both won. The teachers thought I saw things their way, and everyone else knew my views. Pliedes can attest to that shit.

Last thought on Mrs. Wray: I'm just saying she could be more open minded. It would benefit the student, the class, and herself. Just to be able to honestly listen to another person's arguement, then calmly lay out specific ways that their view is incorrect, is quite possibly the greatest attribute anyone can have. If she were to do that to my thoughts, then I would except that her view was better, but she wouldn't. Her only arguement was "Well, your wrong."...and yes, that is a direct quote from Mrs. Wray herself.

Well, gotta say that I enjoyed the fuck out of Mr. Wray's class in 8th grade....he was one of the smartest and coolest teachers in my middle school career.

And his wife, Mrs. Wray....well, Titan, she did put most of the emphasis of the class on symbolism. There was one time when she was discussing the symbolism of the rose outside of the jail in the beginning. The funny thing is, the thing she connected it to had no relevance to the story. I don't remember exactly what it was, but I remember being especially confused and a little annoyed with the fact that symbolism was found in everything. Like a tube sock commercial.

Doesn't mean I didn't enjoy the class though. Maybe it was because I loved the reading (besides The Scarlet Letter....but damn all, if Great Gatsby and The Grapes of Wrath weren't some of the best highschool readin I had had in my English stint). And Mrs. Wray really did a good job with the whole 'challenging' thing.

So all in all, I want Mr. Wray to go to space.
