http://www.etruth.com/News/Content.aspx?ID=353938&page= 3 arrested as suspects in homicide Keim's body found in field, victim of gunshot wound Published: Tuesday, August 09, 2005 -- The Truth, A1 Last updated: 8/8/2005 11:07:44 PM By Tom Dolan Truth Staff MIDDLEBURY -- As friends and loved ones passed out fliers looking for Barbara Keim on Friday and Saturday, three people knew she wasn't missing, according to authorities. Keim was abducted from her Middlebury apartment Thursday night, said Elkhart County Prosecutor Curtis Hill. A trio of teenagers that included Keim's 17-year-old daughter, Hannah Stone, drove through the county to a cornfield just south of Nappanee, Hill said Monday. "It would appear that she was murdered either in the late hours of Thursday evening or early Friday morning," Hill said. "Based upon the information that we have, it would appear that she was murdered in the cornfield where she was found. She was the victim of a gunshot wound." When the 42-year-old nurse didn't show up for work and other obligations Friday, Middlebury police started looking into the case. "At some point and time during the missing person investigation, there was enough information that was leading to suspicious behavior," said Hill. "Based upon information that was gathered, including various descriptions, three individuals of interest were eventually located and brought in for questioning." According to authorities, Goshen Police Capt. Bob Warstler found two of the suspects, Hannah and her boyfriend, 18-year-old Spencer Krempetz, at a Goshen motel at about 3:40 a.m. Sunday. Aaron McDonald, 17, of Middlebury was arrested at another location. Hours later, officers from the Middlebury Police Department, Indiana State Police and Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department found Keim's body. "Based upon the investigation, law enforcement officers had a place to look," Hill said. The prosecutor commended investigators, saying hard work combined with a little bit of luck for a fast resolution. "Law enforcement personnel made something happen and made it happen quickly. Really, from Friday to Sunday, a lot of manpower went into this case," he said. Asked about motive, Hill did not offer any specifics. "Normal people ... we want to believe there's reason or some rationale behind why these things occur. And it's hard to get caught up in that," he said. "Whatever reasons we determine ... will not be any reasons that anyone of normal sensibilities can justify." Hill expects formal murder charges to be filed in adult court by mid-week. The teens could face additional felony charges of criminal confinement based on the abduction before the murder, Hill said. "As more information develops we will certainly put out as much information as is reasonably prudent to provide the public with information," he said. "The details of this are going to be reserved for a jury at a later date." Contact Tom Dolan at tdolan@etruth.com. |

![]() How do you know that's on my street? I don't know that kid.
Either way the story is somewhat confusing... are they saying that 3 teenagers abducted a 42 year old woman and drove nearly an hour away to a cornfield south of Nappanee to shoot her? That's just not the way to do it. I mean if you are going to drive an hour to take somebody to a remote location to kill them, at least leave the county. Hell, they could have been in Michigan in a 5 minute drive. Edit: I guess they did leave the county... barely. That's still weak. I wonder how NHS will react to this... Some Goshen reporter came by one of our workers today and like harrassed her and followed her and was asking her real weird questions about the murder....Goshen News called and apologized and said that "he doesnt have very good people skills"...this guy practically chased a 15 year old girl into a hair salon. ---...no, I don't run a prostitution ring. I wish. |

![]() This article is written a bit more clearly:
Documents say teen intended to kill mother Authorities believe other two suspects drove her to cornfield, shot her in back of head. By YONIKA WILLIS Tribune Staff Writer ![]() Keim ![]() Stone ![]() Krempetz ![]() McDonald Authorities paint a chilling picture of the final hours of Barbara Keim's life. A probable cause affidavit was filed Tuesday against Keim's daughter and the two other suspects in an Elkhart County court. The affidavit says Elkhart County Prosecuting Attorney Curtis Hill needs more time to evaluate the case and determine if charges should be filed. Statements from two other suspects indicate that Keim's daughter thought up the idea to kill her, according to court documents. Keim's body was found Sunday morning in a cornfield at the intersection of County Road 1300 North and 700 West in Kosciusko County south of Nappanee. Hannah Stone, Keim's 17-year-old daughter, along with Stone's boyfriend, 18-year-old Spenser Krempetz, and 17-year-old Aaron McDonald, are being held on suspicion of murder. The probable cause affidavit lays out the following account of Keim's death: On or about Thursday, Stone, along with Krempetz and McDonald, went to Keim's apartment in Middlebury. The three attacked her by binding her wrists and taping her mouth and eyes shut. Krempetz and McDonald then drove Keim to a remote location, where they shot her one time in the back of the head. Authorities have not said what they believe the motive for the crime was. A hearing for the three suspects is set for 8:30 a.m. Thursday in Elkhart Circuit Court. Elkhart Superior Court 3 records show that Krempetz was charged in a separate incident with battery upon a child, a Class D felony, on July 29. And McDonald had appeared in Elkhart Superior Court 4 in 2003 and paid a fine for two counts of possession of paraphernalia, records show. Keim was the mother of two and worked at Elkhart General Hospital. She and her ex-husband, Robert Keim, recently finalized a divorce, according to court documents, and she was actively involved in Brenneman Memorial Missionary Church for the past nine years. Funeral services for Barbara Keim are set for 11 a.m. Friday at Brenneman Memorial Missionary Church on Indiana 15 in Goshen. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home, 700 E. Jackson Blvd., Elkhart. Staff writer Yonika Willis: |

![]() It's pretty hilarious (and amazing) that people spend time programming bots that crawl the web and spoof forum registration... all to find a post that looks like a small town news story And reply to it. I would give a hundred bucks to see the source code.
