BBC News - 'Artificial life' breakthrough announced by scientists

The researchers constructed a bacterium's "genetic software" and transplanted it into a host cell.

There is a bad ass project going on in Finland right now. They're building a bunker that is set to last "at least 100,000 years" and none of the current workers will be alive to see it finished (in the 2100's).

At first glance I though Finland was building some awesome nuke proof bunker for some reason. Which totally didn't surprise me because of Finland's overly-aggressive nuclear program and threats of world domination.

On a second and closer glance, it seems like a pretty sweet idea. Though we do have some time to think about this, I'm interested in happens in 100,000 years. No one ruin this for me with maintenance, or alternative disposal, or any other possible fix. I want this thing to deteriorate all at once on new years day 102,100 and unleash 100k years worth of toxic waste on the world.

Saw this yesterday, debated posting it here. This is pretty huge, in that antimatter annihilates itself (and any matter) whenever it comes in contact with matter. Theoretically, this should mean that there is no matter at all in the Universe, but obviously that's not true. A book i'm reading now explained it but it's pretty up there, and I forget how it's explained. Something that has to do with the first several seconds after the Big Bang.
