If you're a reasonably healthy person and not carrying something heavy, I don't think you should be allowed to take an elevator if there are stairs right next to it and you're going two floors or less. At least not descendingly. My car is too big to bother trying to stuff into crowded spaces anywhere else but the 6th floor of the parking garage. Every day without fail I take the elevator down and it stops on the second floor for someone to get in. It's the laziest shit ever, and furthermore, takes longer than if you'd just walked the 15 or so stairs down.

Exceptions: People with injuries and people carrying heavy shit. Fat people, no excuse, the stairs will do you some good.

Edit* I should add that I mostly hate this because of the extra 15 or so seconds I have to wait for the stop. There's no reason for it.

I've shared this extreme anger towards fat people myself. Every time I want to post something about it on facebook, I remember that two of my mentors are fucking huge and I don't really care to burn a bridge with them.

Haven't lived very high up in most of the places i've inhabited, so I haven't had to deal with it until I came to Korea. I figured it was mostly a Korean thing -- they abuse technology like you've never seen here. Walking is for poor people -- they'd rather take a taxi a half mile. Elevators one floor down all the time.
