So I have been putting off the whole pirating movies / music / etc thing for the last couple years and need a good lesson on Torrents. My understanding is that I use a program to do the actual downloading but have to go to various sites to find what I want to pirate?

What to use, how to use, etc.

I have a secondary old computer that I would like to set up to download shit so that I don't destroy my newer computer with viruses and other evil nasty things.

limewire does torrents now, and I use btjunkie.com for most of my torrents. works wonderfully for me. I was using Azureus as my client but then they got that stupid Vuze media thing instead of just a simple tool that will unzip torrents, so I use limewires.

utorrent is the best software, and it doesn't install other garbage on your puter.

download and install utorrent.

go to thepiratebay.org NOT .com

search for what you want, download/open the torrent with the most seeders, utorrent will automatically start it.

Yeah, use uTorrent, much much better.
Make sure you've unblocked the ports, some routers (aka mine at the moment) are bitches and only allow a certain amount of connections.
I use https://isohunt dot com
once utorrent is installed, just click 'download torrent'
or just open the file (10kb size-ish) with utorrent.
S = Seeds = Good
L = Leachers = Bad
Don't bother downloading torrents with no seeds.

I was thinking of making a 'torrent of the day' y/n?

ID and HCW are correct. uTorrent is good. pirate bay and iso hunt are good as well. You can avoid downloading shitty copies by minding the user comments people leave as well as the file size. If you search the movie Vice Versa, starring Fred Savage and Judge Reinhold, and you see that 2 or 3 of them are about 700mb or so and one of them is way above or below that, be weary of the oddball.

What does it mean in the notes "_____ failed hash check"

Each torrent has a hash number, so it knows what it is, the 10kb file is just a way of sourcing the other pieces, a failed hash check is when the hash number is different, meaning the data is corrupt.
uTorrent blocks failed hash IP's after 5 or so pieces, basically if i edit a file and try and seed it as it was before, the hash number is different so I won't be able to upload it
