HOOSIERS!
IU is so badass. Bloomington Ind. (AP) -- Bracey Wright scored 32 points and D.J. White added 17, including the tying basket in the closing seconds of regulation and the go-ahead basket in overtime, to lead Indiana to a 78-74 victory over No. 10 Michigan State on Sunday. White, playing in foul trouble most of the game, scored with 17 seconds left, sending the game into overtime at 64-all. Paul Davis put Michigan State ahead for the last time at 66-64, but he fouled out shortly after and the Hoosiers (14-11, 9-5 Big Ten) ran off eight straight points to clinch the victory. Roderick Wilmont hit one free throw, White had two more baskets and Wright put the game out of reach with a 3-pointer with 42 seconds left. The Hoosiers scored their last six points on free throws over the final 26 seconds and took a 78-72 lead before Chris Hill scored at the buzzer for Michigan State (20-5, 11-3). Davis and Alan Anderson each scored 12 points for Michigan State, which had won six straight. The Spartans trailed by 11 points late in the first half but pulled within three at halftime and took the lead midway through the second half on a 3-pointer by Kelvin Torbert. Indiana went more than 4 minutes without a field goal but stayed close at the free throw line and trailed only 60-58 on a 3-pointer by A.J. Ratliff with 4 minutes to go. Maurice Ager then hit one free throw and a 3-pointer to put Michigan State ahead 64-58, matching its biggest lead of the game. Marshall Strickland scored for Indiana and Wright pulled the Hoosiers within two with two free throws with 1:30 remaining. After a Michigan State turnover, the Hoosiers got the ball inside to White, a 6-foot-9 freshman, who tied the game. A last-second miss by Torbert sent the game to overtime. Michigan State took a 6-0 lead, but Wright scored the next seven points and had 13 during a 19-3 run that put the Hoosiers up by 10. Wright had another basket and two free throws in the next 3 minutes, then a 3-pointer by Robert Vaden gave Indiana its biggest lead, 28-17. The Spartans held Indiana scoreless for more than 5 minutes after that, however, and two fast-break layups by Tim Bograkos led an 11-point run that tied the game at 28 with 1:50 to go. Strickland's 3-pointer less than a minute later gave Indiana a 31-28 halftime lead. The victory was Indiana's 400th in 34-year-old Assembly Hall. I laughed, I cried, I splooged, and now I'm drinking a miller high life in celebration.
IU still has an outside chance of making the dance and you can damn well believe no 1 seed or 2 seed would be wanting to play IU as a 7, 8, 9, or 10 seed in the NCAA tournament. Still a long way to go but I just love Indiana basketball so much I don't know what else to say! [ February 27, 2005, 03:33 PM: Message edited by: BigDongedHoe ] |

No this is still regular season.
I get so excited about IU Basketball. I was just so happy when they won. My roommates and I drove down Fee Lane (Where some of the dorms are) and honked the horn the whole way and screamed HOOSIERS! And everybody went NUTS! |

Also: How about 7 Ft. center and #1 player in the class of 2006, Greg Oden sitting directly behind IU's bench with incoming recruit Deonta Vaughn. Supposedly Oden didn't leave Assembly Hall until 4:00 with D.J. White and Pat Ewing Jr.
Many believe he's going to the NBA since he's already a lock for the #1 pick (and would be this year as a Junior in HS). However, Oden has been quoted as saying at every interview he has no intentions of the NBA and wants to go to college for a year or 2 for the atmosphere and to mature his game. edit: Students/Fans were cheering "come here Greg Oden" during a T.V. timeout. I'll call it first, IU wipes up in Madison and kills the Wildcats at home giving us a sweet second round sitting against a fourth or fifth seed.

Update: IU's RPI is 71 with the strength of our schedule being 19. A 10 or more win season in conference will clinch a NCAA Tourney birth.

A major conference program will not be a 12 seed I can gurantee that. If we won against Wisconsin and NW and won one round in the BTT and then lose to MSU that will put us at 17-12. Even that IMO will get us a 8-10 seed. A more likely scenario is we lose at Wisconsin, beat NW, beat OSU in the first round of the BTT, and then lose to Illinois. That puts us at 16-13 and a bubble team. I say we get in due to a 10-6 conference record (only 3 teams in Big10 history have not gotten in with 10 wins in conference play and one was because of post-season suspensions by the NCAA) and land an 11 seed.
My dream scenario is we get an 11 and then play 6 seeded Texas Tech, how sweet would that be? |

I agree, it would ultimately be badass, however, that would put me and all Hoosier fans at a crossroads to see us pitted against Knight, the undisputed #1 college b-ball coach of all time, and rightful heir to the IU tradition.

Bob Knight is a douchebag. He's the reason I used to hate IU.

Psychedelics are illegal not because a loving government is concerned that you may jump out of a third story window. Psychedelics are illegal because they dissolve opinion structures and culturally laid down models of behavior and information processing.
